[It doesn't matter what Dave's doing. It doesn't matter because it's not as important as whatever John thinks is important, and thus he's making it a point to find his boyfriend immediately. And, you know, once he's found he's just draping himself over Dave's shoulders and tilting his chin up so he can kiss him. It's slow and deliberate and he holds himself there for a few moments before he pulls back, still wrapped around Dave's back.]
It has been exactly one year since I remembered you were a part of my life, and it's been the best year of my life.
[Hi Dave. One year ago, John played a song that he'd picked up in a dream and learned that someone special was waiting for him and a whole other life was meant for him to remember.]
[ like. okay, dave has no idea what's going on when john drapes and maybe opens his mouth to say something but wow, okay, kissing is occurring and he's fine with that? he's more than fine with that, especially since all he was doing was his homework on the couch in the living room.
so.
john pulls back and says words and they are words that just...cause dave to drag john back down for another kiss. hi, john. ]
[It's fine. He practically flips over the couch but he holds himself up via flight, hovering enough to keep his mouth on Dave's and also not totally bite it. It's important, a milestone he subconsciously kept track of and something that almost means more to him than the day they officially started dating. He doesn't mind that Dave's response is a kiss...it's something he's grown used to now. He does break away though slowly and carefully, hands cupping Dave's face as he leans forward to peck his lips again.]
I think that's my line. [ dave can apparently still sound dazed after they kiss. that will never stop being a thing, maybe, because john never fails to feel like an adrenaline rush. ]
Yeah, well, I stole it. [There's a bright grin.] And since it's the twelfth, I am also stealing you. Come on. Finish your homework later. I want to check out some stuff.
Dave. It's Togusa. Sorry, I know you didn't reveal your number on the network, but, it's hard to not tell that it's you.
I need to ask you about last summer. Not this July, but the one before it, when half of us went missing into 'unreality.' I hate to bring it up, but you're the only person left from Emil's group.
I'm reading over Emil's report. Forever ago, yeah, but the reason it's suddenly standing out is that Emil said you all ran into a werewolf. That's the one spot where he was light on details. Can you tell me more about it?
[It's dark as usual, but Dave will eventually notice the shadows rippling and something slithering over to drape on his shoulders. John's taken to hanging out in wisp form at this rate, happy to play among the shade and shadows and there's a barely-there press to Dave's cheek as John speaks to him in the low, gravelly murmur that's become more obvious over the last week.]
Sooo...we should do something special today. [But the tone still indicates he has something in mind.]
[ dave maybe minds john not always being fully tangible, but he doesn't mind the voice drop. that's fine. that's more than fine? and it's the twelfth, so dave's eyebrows lift as he wonders what "special" means in this context.
another musical scavenger hunt? ] What've you got in mind, slim? [ slim shady. get it. ]
[He gets it which is the worst part. There's a smile, teeth white and glowing against the shadowy features of his face even while he proceeds to nuzzle his nose against Dave's cheek for whatever reason.]
How do you think the story would have gone if Little Red followed the wolf instead of going to Grandmother's house?
[Presumably after John and Dave wrap up their Retrospec conversations, John goes outside to take out the trash and check the mail. He finds bills and the like, but he also finds a semi-familiar ticket as well. Heading inside, he immediately dumps the bills in Dave's lap and holds up the ticket to read it.]
Do you ever get tired of wondering what bullshit our past selves had?
[Guess who hasn't cashed in on the ectosuit, the cardboard buddies, or Dad's wallet? Plus a fourth mystery ticket. HM.]
[There. Is. So much snow. There's so much snow? It's a miracle that he manages to get out to drop off Mewpac and Casey with Shuji, but it doesn't hurt that he cheated and flew over the foot of snow on the pathways. He'd made all of the perfect arrangements for today and over time he'd been working on a present for Dave, along with other birthday preparations.
In a way it's harder to surprise him given they share a house, but Dave will find a couple of things. First of all, there's a few small, wrapped presents on the coffee table. Second of all the house smells delicious, and third of all there's at least a fire going in the fireplace and John's busy feeding logs into the flames. By the time Dave surveys all of this, John simply grins at him.]
I really wish the snow had waited a couple of days, but I guess that makes the decision about skipping class tomorrow even easier.
[ dave is very obviously hovering near the small presents - jk he glances at them and then goes to hang out by the fireplace. ] We got enough supplies to be snowed in, yeah? I mean, we totally do, I did shopping a few days back. Hey.
[He reaches up for Dave's arms draped over him and just kind of hugs him that way even while they camp in front of the fire.]
Yeah. We have enough, and I picked up some things when I dropped off the kids earlier. [He tilts his head just a bit to face him.] Happy birthday, babe. Sorry you got the worst present ever from the sky.
Your present to me can be not makin' me go out in it. What'd you pick up earlier?
[ nosy much...he hooks his chin over john's shoulder, fairly content. his eyes are shut and obviously so, since inside he tends to leave them off with john now. they have some heavy duty curtains and all. ]

Do you ever get tired of wondering what bullshit our past selves had?
[Guess who hasn't cashed in on the ectosuit, the cardboard buddies, or Dad's wallet? Plus a fourth mystery ticket. HM.]
no subject
I mean. Pretty much everything we owned was bullshit. Got anything that reads like it might be cool for our knickknack shelves?
no subject
I have no idea. I didn't actually look at them before putting them away. I had other priorities last week.
no subject
Can't believe we didn't manage to take over the world.
