I don't know if we were maybe married when we were thirteen but I sort of get your point. I think I'm just...when it does happen, what do you want out of it? A wedding? Just the legality of it?

The legal bullshit, sure. I don't care that much about a wedding if you don't. I'd like to say vows, I guess. It'd make some bills easier maybe but it's just - we don't have to. Like if this is "what's the point" maybe there isn't one? Maybe it's just some kinda societal programming that doesn't matter, because the things I want I can already have. Maybe it's stupid. Probably it is.

[He resists the urge to roll his eyes.] It's not about "what's the point", it's about trying to plan for it, dumbass. Do you know how much time and coordination is needed to plan a nice wedding? A lot, apparently. So I want to be sure we aren't compromising on stuff we want.

[Ah. It was a present for his last birthday but then Carmen disappeared from the app. So he's not surprised, but... ]

...we always said you'd have a dark room and I'd have a music room whenever we got a place together. And we do technically have an extra room. That's really all?

Well, like... [ hm. ] I don't need anything big or fancy. The night for just us?

No party this year. [Its a question but said more like a statement.] Your birthday is on a Monday anyway. I wouldn't mind just us if that's what you're okay with.

I don't mind one, but definitely nothing that runs late. [ he's tearing his sandwich into tinier pieces. ] I sort of like having you to myself at night? And also it will be my birthday.

And since the next day is our date night anyway maybe we should just skip Tuesday. I'm not doing anything in class that is that important. [Hopefully dave is eventually going to eat that sandwich. ] Maybe a small party the weekend after or something and Monday is just a family birthday.

Like, visit my family then drag you back home? [ he does in fact eat one of the smaller pieces although he's probably just dancing around something. ]

[...] If you want. But I kind of meant us...since we're family, too? [A shrug. He can play the long con and be patient until Dave feels like actually explaining himself.]

It's more than kind of. Make me dinner and let me pick the movie?

Of course. [He tilts his head, trying to puzzle that out. He has a few weeks at least, but he's already planning for Dave's birthday based on all of that.] Any requests for dinner? Or am I making it a surprise?

[Still gently pressing. What are you stalling about, Strider?]

[ dumb shit, undoubtedly. ] Something with fruit. [ descriptive but he generally eats whatever john makes so... ] Think we can get a sitter?

I can do that. But I'm also making a real meal. [...huh. He really just wants to be alone for his birthday, doesn't he?] For Mewpac? Yeah, probably. You know Shuji, right? He'd probably be ecstatic to watch her. Or Elliot and Eren if they're not busy.

Shuji was a vampire the other month too. Or...demon. Same wheelhouse? But yeah, I'd say we're friends. [ he dips one of his sandwich slices in his soup and eats that. ] And obviously Eren and Elliot can be trusted with our child...you got any requests?

Hmm...Elliot lives with a couple of people who have cats, too, I think, so maybe keep that in consideration. I'll message a few people and see who can take her. I guess we could ask Eleanor, too. We have options and it's just for the day. [At least Dave's eating his sandwich.]

...Casey might be a bigger problem though.
