As long as we're sure Mewpac won't try to go out it - well, we can close it from the outside and it won't lock, so that should be fine. Probably easier than goin' off the roof?

[ it's not like he hasn't beat a retreat out their window before, or scaled the wall up through it. ]

Yeah we can close it on the way out. I doubt she would think to climb out this high up anyway. [A reassuring grin.] I’ll be fine. Are you ready?

Yeah, yeah. [ but in the interest of being training wheels it’s dave who slides the window open and simply swings his legs over the side before jumping out into thin air, fluid. ]

[Theres a goodbye scratch under the chin for the cat before John heads to the window as well. Unlike Dave, however, he doesn’t jump out immediately. They’re still fairly high up and he suddenly realizes this might be a terrible plan if his flight does give out suddenly. So. He doesn’t move and instead he looks down at the ground contemplatively. Give him a minute, Dave.]

[ why the hell does john think dave went first. he just holds out his left hand for john to take or ignore. ]

[He looks at Dave’s hand and he frowns lightly once he gets a gauge of how high they are.]

So. If I jump it should just kick in right? Please tell me we do not actually need pixie dust and shit to make this work on purpose.

[ ...ok he pulls his hand back and to himself out of reach when John doesn’t move and shrugs, shifting where he hovers midair to look down at the ground. ]

It doesn’t work like that. You just...do.

Wait! [Get your hand back here, Strider, what the fuck. His own hand reaches out but he doesn’t move yet. ]

What if it is the windy thing and not actually flying? I actually did not consider that.

[ dave freezes but doesn’t reach out again? he already did that? ]

Then I catch you. No big deal.

[Good point. But all the same he looks for another moment before he huffs, bracing himself for all of theee seconds before launching himself out the window.

And straight down a few terrifying feet before he figures out how to stop himself midair. Okay then.]

[ this is why he kind of wanted to hold john’s hand, so he could yank him up if he fell, but dave can stop time briefly so he chooses to continue not reaching out instead. he doesn’t freeze frame john but let’s himself drop the same amount until john has a handle on it.

he’ll wait out the figuring it out, patient and quiet. ]

[He flails a bit, arms up and out to his sides to try and control the air but he finds it does nothing. He can't make it flow like he's dreamed and remembered and nothing happens but sensing the currents around him. Instead, he finds himself floating midair and staring up at Dave until they're level with one another and he stares at him, mildly worried but mostly gleeful at the results.]

So we can control which way we want to go, right?

[ john at least seems to be keeping himself afloat, so dave shoves his hands in his pockets, and nods vaguely as he simply stands in mid air, or seems to. ]

Yeah. It's not so hard to pick up. We got it pretty much immediately back then. Rose and I, anyway. We had to, though.

[Give him a second to right himself to where he's standing, too. It takes a bit before he rises a little higher.]

I think I did, too? I was flying when I ascended...I remember that part. It was instantaneous which wasn't weird at the time I guess but thinking about it now it is.

[ dave's advice... ]

You know how to fly already. Just listen to that part of you and ignore the student driver part.

[He frowns a little, hovering while he tries to clear his mind. Ignoring the babysteps, ignoring the training wheels...can he do that?

He knows how to fly already. He's dreamed about this. He knows by instinct. And with that in mind he begins to ascend again. It's slow at first, but he's steadily rising until he's up past Dave's head.]

[ doing things based on instinct and intuition is the advice of a time player. it's also the advice of a kid who got thrown off a roof to learn how not to have that be a thing.

still, dave lets himself rise after john does, still neutral-faced. ]

[He's flying higher and higher, not picking up speed but mostly allowing himself to ascend straight up with Dave following after him.]

[ of course there are city limits, but they're impossible to acknowledge. dave picks what he picked the first time he got asked that question in this lifetime: ]

[His eyes widen a bit.]

S'the first thing I ever wanted to do. It'd figure we're stupid similar in the dumb ways. [ but he doesn't meant it in a bad way. ] Let's see how high your lungs hold up.

I mean, you are my best friend for a reason. [And he zips up a little higher.] If my aspect is air it should be pretty high. Come on! [And off he goes up, up, and away, suddenly dashing up a good fifty feet with a laugh.]

It doesn't have anythin' to do with aspects - [ but yeah, okay. dave pulls his hands out of his pockets and follows at a more sedate pace. he should start wearing his god tier shit for this; he doesn't really remember getting cold in them, ever. ]

Does it have to do with us being gods in general? [This is shouted down at Dave as he continues flying higher above his head. He finds himself at a decent pace eventually to even out but he's also testing his range to fly side from side as they get closer and closer to the clouds and the city grows smaller below them.]
