How can I use a perk I didn’t know I had? That sounds a little unfair. [Not that he minds too terribly much and not that he won’t takw advantage of it later but details. He keeps his eyes on the sky for meteors.] Like I said, you can change them if you want. I don’t mind. We can take all of this one step at a time.

dave decides the next step can actually be deploying the extra jacket and shrugging it on, and the slouching over into john’s side to leech heat. he’s hysterically kind of exhausted but he’ll keep his eyes open and skyward. ]

[He's glad for the foresight to give Dave an extra jacket before he shifts to loop an arm around his shoulders and pull him flush against his side for body heat. He's also using a free hand to grab for one of the blankets to bunch around them while he's looking overhead.]

See that? Orion's belt, easy to find. Then just up on his shoulder is Gemini...there. That's where they come from. But actually you're pretty much supposed to just focus on the dark points of wherever? You can see 'em anywhere in the sky. That telescope ain't needed for the meteor shower, but if we set it up again the asteroid they come from - Phaethon, I think? - is makin' a close pass apparently. Sort of like how you commented on staring at my face.

We would be in a position I can do things with you? [There's a soft laugh but he lets Dave take his hand and he follows the line of sight up to the sky again.]

Orion's belt is supposed to be a handful of the brightest stars, right? [He likes the stars but he doesn't know as much about them as other people do. He's letting his eyes follow though.] I guess they really are big enough to see from here without a telescope but it would be cool to see the asteroid, too.

[There's a sly grin though.] Is that a problem? It is a good face to make passes about.

[ dave says, telling like. one of the biggest lies ever. he's actually pretty easy to fluster if you know how to go about it, you just have to like, be able to read the reactions, too. he is kind of flustered now but keeping a neutral expression and refusing to look over at john since he'd probably get more flustered LET'S NOT. ]

Also, yeah, that's right. We can check out the asteroid after the meteors. [ timing won't be an issue but also he doesn't think he'll need to loop to make that a thing. after the like. loop to get them here. ] I should totally get a job at the planetarium.

You'd better start thinking up wishes. Meteors are just about as good as shooting stars. [ meteors. um. ] As long as none of those try to hit us we should be fine memory-wise.

Yeah, okay. [Hard to say if that's "yeah okay I'll stop trying" or "yeah okay you're full of shit" but he doesn't specify. Instead he's just keeping Dave close by and letting his hand rub over his outside arm to keep him warm.]

You're only allowed to get a planetarium job if you quiet, like, at least two of your other ones. On the other hand you would be good at it. [This is all said while he's keeping an eye out for meteors.] I already remember the meteor coming for my house so I'm not too worried. But wishes...

Are meteor-wishes the same as star wishes or birthday wishes where you can't talk about them or they won't come true?

I think they are pretty much just things you do.

It's like the urge to pull a fire alarm when you see it except it's a thing you actually take part in. Like, not the fire alarm thing, the wish thing. [ he's dropped his head onto john's shoulder so that's where that is at. he probably? won't fall asleep? maybe. ]

[Oh of course it was. But with Dave's head on his shoulder he shifts a little and begins to gently tap out a beat.]

I don't know about you but I would definitely pull fire alarms if I could get away with it. [A grin.] I think it's nice. To do those things. We've talked about this before but wishes are interesting to me.

Wishes are incredibly sacred, Dave. But I suppose I can tell you about one or two of them if you are really that interested.

Hm...I had a few on my list. A good Christmas is pretty far up there...I still have some things left to do for the charity drive but it's been fun so far and I hope it actually means something to someone out there. I wish for answers a lot, but I get we can't have too many of them all at once. And I wished for you. So two out of three so far isn't bad.

[To be fair that was post-nightmare about DEATH, SO! But he doesn't care that Dave's in his personal space as usual and again he thinks maybe this should have been the tip-off. Instead, he's moving a little so that Dave can be more comfortable even as he watches from the corner of his eye.]

We could ambush one of my other partners or one of the girls--[But he doesn't finish that thought because Dave suddenly spots meteors and he looks up to fix his gaze on the sky again.] How fast do they really move? Is it like a bunch of them will appear or one every ten minutes?

It varies. This time should be peak shower hours so we’ll probably see a technical amount of lots.

That's so cool. [It's whispered even while he's focused on the sky. Meteors are cool to see even given what they mean to the two of them, and he's not at all lost on the fact that Dave's quiet and calm. He doesn't mind. He's not going to tell him to go to sleep since Dave will be stubborn and refuse, but he's also preparing himself for that possibility.]

Do you think it's dumb to want to be up there with them someday? Like up close and personal.

Do I get to have Saturdays with you again? [Ah. He would leave it at that, but uh. They just had a conversation about answering questions with questions, so he tries again.] I don't know about keeping them exactly the same? I would like to do other things with you, too, but I like having the time to spend with just you. I know you're my best friend and we live together but it's kind of nice having a solid block of time to look forward to all the time.

I would like to do just our usual shit where we hang out and sometimes don't even leave the dorm, but I would also like to maybe do actual date things. There are a couple of things I think you'd like and some stuff I want to check out, too. It doesn't have to be scheduled like alternating but I know you like having schedules. [Shrug.] We can figure that part of it out later.
