[He will definitely agree to family pictures like a goddamn sucker. But he nods and gestures to the museum.]
I was reading about this cool set of displays they’re doing for the holidays and...I don’t know. I thought it would be kind of neat to check it out. [John Egbert is definitely targeting Dave Strider this Christmas. ]
You thought it would be neat. [ the don't-touch art museum. dave's eyebrows lift but he does...
he actually doesn't move to get out of the car. because john likes opening doors. ]
I mean, I'm in. Also, this reminds me [ in a sideways manner ] you might want to make some kinda plans for Wednesday nights? Maybe with Nat or whoever. For at least a little while, although y'all might be useful sometimes if you want.
Filming a horse propoganda film with Minato, who wants to play the horse? May or may not transition to a standing thing after. We do need other actors, though. How do you feel about being a campaign manager?
It's something. [But he's finally getting out of the car and letting Dave out as well, gesturing for him to follow to the museum entrance.] Come on. They're running on holiday hours today.
You think? I just thought it was something we'd both probably like. [As long as John can deal with the actual art museum itself and not just the fun part that they added for the holiday. He's paying their admission fees before Dave can say anything and he heads inside.]
So...where do you want to start? The full museum? Or the holiday displays?
[An eyeroll. But he follows along and even asks a few questions about some of the displays because John doesn’t know how art works. Tell him how things work, Dave. ]
[ well. dave starts out a little slow about his answers as he gauges how actually interested john is, but he'll relax and ease up if he's sure he's not boring john, casually explaining things with an actual good grasp of what he's talking about but also just editoralizing and giving his actual opinions on the artwork. ]
[John doesn’t seem too bored. He’s not as actively engaged and excited like he is with music or movies but it’s a quiet kind of interest and he’s letting Dave talk and explain. The museum itself is pretty large but he doesn’t seem to notice while seemingly actually enjoying himself a little. Like his threshold for being still and not being too active is reaching its limit but he’s doing decently.]
[ good job, john. dave's voice is just steady and quiet and his thumb traces circles on the back of john's hand as they walk and while he could clearly stick around the museum for hours without getting bored he's trying to go faster than he otherwise would so john doesn't...get bored... ]
[John can luckily entertain himself but there's also Dave's hand in his and Dave talking more than Dave usually talks about anything with interest like this and it's endearing. He at least feels like he made the right choice and so he's content for about two hours, almost three.]
Wanna know a secret? I have never been to an art museum before. [Gasp. Shock. Etc.]

[ dave has weird friends. ]

Hard pass, babe. Maybe I should stick to being your composer? And why does Minato want to be a horse?

[ DAVE HAS...WEIRD FRIENDS. he gives john a flicker of a grin before pulling up an image on his phone to show john. ]
It'd have to fit the tone of the inspiration for the piece?

Which one of you created this and why did you make me see it?

Probably holiday stuff to look forward to. But the rest of it will probably be fine.

[ ...although he feels bad taking john. accordingly he stops fucking with his camera and holds out his hand. ]

The full museum shouldn't be too busy today, at least. It's Christmas Eve.

[ but he walks in a familiar direction, taking john towards newer (normal, non-holiday) exhibits so he can look at them. ]
