[ too bad apparently! but dave looks at the picture and then angles his phone for john. john smiled, dave did his usual calm expression with the faintest uptick of the corner of his mouth. ]

[There's a grin as he eyes the picture.] Works for me if it works for you. We'll do another one with Mewpac when we get back, too, if you want still.

Just because something makes me happy - that doesn’t mean I’ll make you sit through whatever it is always, y’know?

Not what I meant, dumbass. If I really didn't want to be here and I didn't really want to check out the museum with you for a couple of hours, I wouldn't have brought you here. I would have given you tickets and sent you with, like, I don't know, Rose or somebody else. I'm just saying your happiness is a bonus.

[He definitely would not be here without Dave, no.] I'm sure. You're worrying about it too much.

Yeah, wonder why that is. [ but he doesn’t explain himself further, just drags john through the rest of the museum, although he doesn’t linger at any exhibit too long and keeps the pace towards fast in order to get them out sooner rather than later. ]

[He's trying to dig his heels in to slow them down to a decent pace but he's also letting Dave wander through the museum anyway. Toward the end though he stops to take a picture of one of the huge displays with his phone.]

Daaaave. You're missing the cool stuff. [Why he's enamored by the large ornaments and a giant 20 foot nutcracker we just don't know.] You want to get back to Mewpac that bad?

Yes. [ blandly, though the answer is no. mostly no? ] If you want to spend more time on whatever we can.

I wouldn't mind hanging out for a while. This isn't boring art. [A pause.] How long would it take you to get ready to go out again?

You might want to change a little? [There's a thought.] I mean I would not mind if you wanted to stay like that because you're hot either way, but you might want to think a little more...fancy?

Am I? [ but he doesn’t pursue it, the flippant-not-flippant remark left behind as dave just nods along. ] I can do fancy.

Do fancy. I promise you you will feel better about it for the main thing.

Then let’s head back? [ unless john seems interested in lingering. ]

[And he'll nod and head back out to the car. Same song different verse, the radio's still on and he's casually singing along when it's a Christmas song he likes as he drives them back to the dorm. It's later in the afternoon at least...that should be fine, he thinks, and he parks while letting Dave out of the car to head upstairs.]

Think the tree's still standing?

I doubt she managed to knock over the cat tree. [ mewpac is perfect ]

You give your daughter way too much leeway. [And up they go...where the cat tree is in one piece and Mewpac's content and curled up on it. So there's that. John just shakes his head and he's moving to his closet already, opening it and pulling out a suit. So that's how that's going.]

[ a suit. okay. dave just behaves accordingly, raising his eyebrows and moving to his...previous side of the room that is now desks and closets, whatever, ]

[Give him a second to get dressed and stuff. It'll take a bit of time and he doesn't bother fixing his hair or anything,but there's even a tie and the piano cufflinks. He's not explaining though.]

This one's going to be a better surprise.
