Probably not. Is Christmas Eve really considered a date evening anyway? [He's mostly letting Dave lead since he doesn't really know where he's going.]

I think so? I was talkin' to Kit about spending Christmas Eve and Christmas with you and was informed it was a date.

[windeity]

[A raised eyebrow.] Was this before or after we started dating though?

[parodeity]

... [ a mutter that sounds suspiciously like "before" as he drags john over to the newest photography shit. ]

[windeity]

[An eyeroll. But he follows along and even asks a few questions about some of the displays because John doesn’t know how art works. Tell him how things work, Dave. ]

[parodeity]

[ well. dave starts out a little slow about his answers as he gauges how actually interested john is, but he'll relax and ease up if he's sure he's not boring john, casually explaining things with an actual good grasp of what he's talking about but also just editoralizing and giving his actual opinions on the artwork. ]

[windeity]

[John doesn’t seem too bored. He’s not as actively engaged and excited like he is with music or movies but it’s a quiet kind of interest and he’s letting Dave talk and explain. The museum itself is pretty large but he doesn’t seem to notice while seemingly actually enjoying himself a little. Like his threshold for being still and not being too active is reaching its limit but he’s doing decently.]

[ good job, john. dave's voice is just steady and quiet and his thumb traces circles on the back of john's hand as they walk and while he could clearly stick around the museum for hours without getting bored he's trying to go faster than he otherwise would so john doesn't...get bored... ]

[windeity]

[John can luckily entertain himself but there's also Dave's hand in his and Dave talking more than Dave usually talks about anything with interest like this and it's endearing. He at least feels like he made the right choice and so he's content for about two hours, almost three.]

Wanna know a secret? I have never been to an art museum before. [Gasp. Shock. Etc.]

Yeah, gotta say the fact we popped your art museum cherry was not super secretive babe, but I appreciate the sentiment. Is this the part where the art museum equivalent of pillow talk occurs? We’re looping back to the holiday shit, by the way, the seasonal stuff tends to be in the same location...

[windeity]

Cool, lead on. And I don’t know, maybe? What do you even know about pillow talk? [It’s not a serious comment but he follows after and seems to brighten as they head for holiday stuff. ]

[parodeity]

Plenty. [ mildly, though he drifts away from the topic immediately. ] I think the last time I went to a special exhibit here was the start of the year.

[windeity]

[Let's definitely ignore the topic as they head for the holiday exhibit.] That's almost surprising. This one should be worth it though, I promise.

[And as they approach, it will become clear what John was excited about. It's a large winter wonderland inside the open area of the exhibit hall, giant ornaments on display and scattered sculptures spread out. There's Christmas music playing in the background but it's low and kind of jazz-y to give a calm vibe.]

[ ...there’s another laugh, quiet, and he will probably never laugh this much in one day ever again? ]

[Yeah this is basically John's Christmas present to himself: an openly happy Dave Strider. But he grins and yeah, this is definitely his speed and there's a light shrug.]

They even have a giant set of bells you can play with. But I thought it'd be cool to walk through and see what they have, um. Some of these are sculptures, some are paper machete, some are stained glass? It's all kinds of stuff.

Do you know how they make stained glass?

[No one was surprised. And so he takes Dave's hand and pulls light, starting them on their walk through the set of displays.]

I have absolutely no idea, but somehow I feel like you probably do?

[parodeity]

I do. What I like about stained glass best is how it makes something really pretty out of so many fractured pieces, though.

[windeity]

Yeah? So it's just...broken parts put with other broken parts to become whole and better is what you're saying. Just like that?

[parodeity]

I mean, look at any stained glass work - it's like...done in parts, held together by the lead or whatever, you know? It's just sort of inspiring.

[windeity]

When you put it that way it sounds sort of poetic. [It's cool though.] I can't say I've ever really looked at stained glass that close. Not outside of the big picture. So...it's sort of neat to think about that way.

[parodeity]

It's one way to try to look at things, anyway. [ a shrug. ] I'm working on different points of view. Let's go find the bells for you to hit?

[windeity]

You're kind of good at that. [But he nods, leading Dave onward to the giant bells. Once they get there he pulls away, looking at the bells and immediately making one of them ring and he laughs.

...give him a moment and then the opening notes of the Carol of the Bells begins. Sorry Dave.]

[ john is not sorry at all. but dave can at least join in, always comfortable with percussion or sound effects? ]

[windeity]

[Good job, idiots, other museum-goers are probably either staring at them, recording them, or wishing they'd stop being noisy but eventually John brings the song to an end while leading Dave through it.]

...I've been waiting to do that all day.
