Let me ask you this. If I said "sorry I wasn't fast enough to save you" what would you say?

[ he sets his pastry back down and props his chin on his hand instead. ] You already know and I know you know. [ ... ] Point taken. But if I said to you what you know I'd say, would it make you feel any different?

[A shrug.] I don't know. I think you and I have developed a really bad habit of being reckless for each other, but I am also not sure I want to stop that.

...I always had that. [ MAY AS WELL COP TO IT. ]

We'll talk about why that is worrying later. So...what do we do about that? There's two of us who are like that now. Should we be worried?

[parodeity]

It's just kind of part of - [ a shrug. he doesn't feel like explaining, and anyway it's not really a huge concern. ] It's not a thing I know how to stop doing about you. You just...matter too much to think straight when it comes to shit like that.

...do you think maybe this makes us kind of co-dependent now? [Neither of them would really do well if something happened, he thinks.]

...Do you think we ever weren't? [ because he's not so sure. ]

Um. [Good...point.] Maybe not. I guess maybe we didn't realize it because we were always separated.

[parodeity]

[ he kind of seems to consider that, and shakes his head. ] No, I kinda knew I was. You're just dumb.

Wait why am I dumb? How was I supposed to know?

I dunno, by noticing how you felt about me, I guess? [ that would be asking john to think about codependency though ]

I still wouldn't have known, so shut up. [He sticks out his tongue.] I have never known what co-dependency is.

It's us. We're the poster children for co-dependency, congrats. Do you want to give a speech for the acceptance?

[windeity]

I wouldn't be able to do it without you. [He rolls his eyes.] Why didn't anyone else point it out before?

You sure Rose didn't?

If she did I absolutely was not listening. Do you think she did?

Probably, she talked to me about it sometimes. [ a shrug. ]

What exactly did she say?

Pretty much pointed remarks whenever I mentioned you or whatnot. [ dryly. ]

Have we ever considered telling Rose to mind her own business?

[parodeity]

Yeah, when exactly has that one ever worked for you? Also, she would tell you I am her business.

[windeity]

And while she's not wrong about that, I think maybe she would consider listening this time. Maybe. I could make a very convincing case.
