[ dave turns to tentatively sling an arm over john's waist. in slow motion. but despite the weird moment in the kitchen john hasn't told dave to stop touching him yet. ]
[Yeah, weird how that works??? Hm. Mysteries. Even more mysterious is John curling into that hold comfortably like he's used to this. He doesn't say "good night" or anything, but his eyes are shut even if he doesn't seem to be going to sleep.
[ it gets less tentative when john doesn't protest or shift away. john curls into dave and dave lets himself pull john closer and it feels better that way. he couldn't protect jade and he's failed john too many times to count, but it feels a little closer to being possible when john's secure like this. like protecting his best friend isn't impossible.
