I think you just want to plan a party. [Amused.] I cannot object that much.

No, like. [ a pause. ] You've had three birthdays without like. A party with anyone more than Jade? And some sprites. I just...thought maybe you'd like one with like. People. And not cake? Planning parties is not like a secret hobby of mine, I just...figured. You know?

[Good point.] ...it'd be fun, yeah. There are a lot of people here that would make a party fun. You had fun at yours, didn't you?

At the family dinner? [ and now john knows why...dave wanted one... ] Well, yeah. I like that we get to have them nightly, too.

[ it makes eating almost worthwhile, for all that he sometimes just chats through dinner. ]

Dad and I used to have them all the time. It sort of made sense to keep it up here. So I'm glad we do them together, too.

[parodeity]

[ ... ] Yeah, well. It's the first time I've been around family besides Rose.

[windeity]

No I know. But like I said, it is a thing I am happy about.

[parodeity]

You know I mean you, right? [ and not, like, dirk. who is family. but. ]

I mean yes, I figured that out. And you're family to me, too. It's why living with you has been great.

[parodeity]

Just checking. [ he's basically given up on eating his pastry. dave leans his elbow on the table and props his own chin up on his hand. ] We're basically living out my thirteen-year-old dreams. Not exactly, but near to.

[windeity]

We are missing movies and the girls, but it's cool, right? We can stay up however late we want, and we have dinner together and we get to hang out all the time. I like it.

[parodeity]

Of course it's cool. [ ... ] Is there anythin' else you wanna do? Like. To make it feel more like a home.

[ he knows that he likes what they're doing but john's the one with actual experience in like. home-homes. ]

...decorate more maybe? I don't know how though with the resources we still have here. But making it a blend of stuff we both like would be cool. I like the pictures in the living room though.

[parodeity]

We can raid some shops together? Find stuff we both enjoy.

[windeity]

You think they would have stuff we can grab and bring back here? The shops are usually hit and miss given we are in an abandoned town.

[parodeity]

I think it'd be a fun way to spend a day either way.

[windeity]

Let's go whenever you want then. I am always here to explore stuff like that.

Tomorrow? It's getting late.

Tomorrow is a good idea. First thing.

So. Clean up and then bed? Did you want me to... [ sleep in the same room or not? ]

[windeity]

That's a good plan. You can come with me if you want...I don't mind.

[parodeity]

[ there's some relief that john doesn't mind despite the weird moment earlier. ] Okay, cool. [ he gets go to start cleaning up the cooking stuff and stowing the leftovers. ] It's a little easier to sleep that way since it's easier to check you haven't vanished into thin air or something.

[He should maybe consider what he said about not flirting but taking comfort in making sure nobody's disappearing isn't flirting. It's normal. So he gets up to help as well.]

Where would I even go?

[parodeity]

[ it is, somehow, second nature to work with john to clean up. handing him things or stepping around him like some weird domestic dance and the sheer normality of it makes dave's breath hitch for a second because it feels normal and like home and like family and he isn't sure how to explain it. ] You're the slippery motherfucker who likes to turn into thin air, you tell me.

[It's quick work and it's normal teamwork that he doesn't think twice about. He doesn't think that maybe Dave's effected by it and he shuts the cabinets when everything's put away.]

I'm not going to turn into thin air anytime soon. So don't worry about it. Okay?
