I miss my phone and my laptop not bein' completely dead and forever locked from me usin' them.

I wish that were the case but I'm unconvinced. Maybe electricity just isn't aesthetic enough.

For the whole fairytale thing? Maybe not, but neither are laptops. I think maybe they're not sure what brand they're going for here.

Honestly can they really be called laptops? They reach one single solitary board and it is almost entirely meme free. I am the only one contributing to the cause.

I mean it's like ancient internet so maybe. I think that is probably because you are the only one who is that passionate about memes. Is it really a worthy cause?

That has to be the least true thing you've ever said. [ but it's nice. john's voice and a hand rubbing at his back and being more or less draped over john in a hug. his best friend cannot get away like this and dave doesn't have to worry he's disappeared or turned into a statue because he's very demonstrably right here. his breathing is evening out but he's still awake for the moment. ]

[He's fine with continuing to rub his back and be a pillow.] Okay man then I don't know what to tell you. Why am I your best friend?

[ he could joke about it. ] Because you make me want to be better than I am, and you're one of the best people I know in a way that's just genuinely good and right and genuinely...you. And you think I am too. And sometimes completely on accident you say the things I remember most in life, usually without even thinking about it. Because you're sixteen and still build pillow forts and you make things seem okay.

[ he could joke but he doesn't. ]

[That's a heavy and serious answer and he goes quiet even if his breathing is a steady rhythm to follow and his hand's solid and warm across Dave's shoulders as it rubs in slow circular motions. This is apparently working and that's important and he thinks about how he has to be here for people like Dave and Vriska in any way that he can.

Even moreso though, Dave in particular's relying on him and he refuses to let him down.]

Of course I think you're one of the best people I know. I do not always agree with your choices and how you do things, but I admire a lot about you, dude. And you're a good person and want the best for everybody which is also important. [A beat.] Even if things don't always feel okay right now, they will be.

You'll remember me? This me. [ it's very quietly asked. ]

Yes. [Immediate and serious and truthful all at once.] Without a doubt.

Then that's a good second place prize. [ it's drowsily said. but if he's dead and doomed at least he won't be entirely erased. ]

Cool. [Another pause.] It's more reason we should focus on our time here together and with the people we're meeting, right?

Yeah. Are you sure you can handle it though? [ that's more important than whatever dave finds comforting. ]

[windeity]

Time here with you guys? Of course I can.

No, what comes after. Will this make it harder for you in the long run?

[windeity]

...it was always going to be hard for me, Dave. It'd be harder if I didn't get to make the most of my time with you guys here though.

I know. It's just... [ a stupid little laugh. ] That wasn't how it was supposed to go aside form how it was.
