but he lets himself drift for once. the first decent sleep he got in this stupid place was listening to john play the piano. and then the second time, too.
this time he'll sleep for longer than either of those, though, curled up against john's side and breathing evenly, arm slung over him and face pressed against john's shoulder. it's never easy for him to fall asleep but it's easier when he knows exactly where his best friend is and when he's secure in the knowledge that nothing can take john away right this second. ]
[He stays awake for a bit longer. His hand moves soothingly and he's laying so Dave can rest comfortably in their fort. He continues, drifting in and out for a while and making sure Dave stays asleep before finally allowing himself to do the same. They can stay like that for hours. It'll be okay. ]
