[ - okay he didn't expect john to actually lay back down or anything? so there's a pause as dave readjusts to the flow of conversation, although after the lull he reaches out again and this time tugs john closer so he can basically cling. it's not desperate so much as it is sulkily cold, the sort of thing done to friends or family when you're comfortable and maybe tired or relaxed. ]

I'll forgive you if you play heater for five more minutes before I have to admit that winter has definitely come for my ass.

She is a kitten and tiny and maybe when she's a cat she will be enough to replace you but probably not. Cats can be like, feet heaters? But they do not do full body warmth.

[ he's actually mentally tracking the five minutes. it's not even a thing he has to pay attention to, really. ]

Good point. She'd make a good foot warmer when she's big enough. [Mewpac purrs and promptly situates herself between John and Dave somehow while Dave clings. There's a slow shrug then.]

...you're probably right though. I have been pretty tired lately so it was kind of nice to sleep in a little. But I am wide awake now.

[ the cat is definitely a fan of heat and cuddling and dave makes sure not to crush her even as he presses his face into john's shirt and thinks warm thoughts of summer and how much winter SUCKS. ]

I always wake up early. [ john...knows this. dave goes to bed late and wakes up early and sleeps incredibly light. but he doesn't wake john up unless he knows john has to be somewhere. ] It is unfair you are this warm?

I know. You and the cat have that in common. [Sigh.] I can't help it! Sorry? [A grin.] I think maybe it's immunity from living in the pacific northwest.

Fuck you? [ about the immunity. dave shifts again and reaches out to drag john's arm over him like john is a blanket. he waits to see if john will protest this or not. ]

You're benefitting from it, aren't you? [...nope. No protest. He'll just adjust his arm so Dave can use it for warmth.]

[ okay cool it's now a hug instead of clinging. kind of. ] Maybe. You know, you're lucky you're you.

I mean that you are an exception to a lot of rules. [ that doesn't clear anything up but dave is as usual committed to being clear as mud. ]

Is that a good or a bad thing? [Before Dave can answer: ] Whatever. If you really want we can maybe get an actual portable heater for the room? I doubt I am going to be warm enough forever.

That would be like logical. [ and that’s not an answer but dave sighs and after another three seconds moves away, sitting up and getting out from under the covers. ] Time’s up, let’s get ready.

[Instead of doing that, John pauses and gives Dave a contemplative look. It’s hard to say what he’s thinking but his eyes are focused on Dave and he stays down for a bit to think something over.

In the end it doesn’t even matter and he sits up and rolls out of bed while planting a kiss to the cat’s head.]

Sure. It won’t take long. Do you want to stop anywhere before we go for you to see Malik?

[ don’t look too long? the second dave is off the bed he goes to his closet and hauls out his jeans and a long sleeved shirt he will bury in sweaters, and starts to change. as usual this is done quickly and efficiently. ]

No. [ but after he’s dressed and pulling on shoes: ] But I actually know a place you’ll like going after. ]

[Yeah it’s about the time Dave starts changing that John clues in he needs to move. So he’s up and going to get dressed and dig for his shoes.]

Yeah? Do I get to know what this mysterious place is?

Nope. But you’ll be happy, probably. Then you can plan the rest of our agenda?

Yeah, sure. [He grabs his jacket and keys and a scarf, throwing the items on while heading for the door.] You feed the cat while I was asleep?

Nope. I didn’t want to leave the bed and she was sleeping anyway. [ but he does it now after hauling on a sweater and jacket, making sure there’s water for the kitten as well. ] Never wake up sleeping cats?

[The kitten is probably very happy.] You spoil her way too much. [But down to the car they go and John immediately turns on the air to a medium-warm temperature to try and warm up the car while also opening Dave's door for him. A song is half-way through and John's already putting the car in reverse to back out and drive.]
