I plan to stick around as long as you want me to, yes. Whenever that may be. So...I guess there is no problem with that?

[ dave tips the camera to the side. it's not like this uncovers his face that much more - the shades are still on - but it's some kind of gesture, maybe. no one ever likes to be talked to through a lens, in his experience.

If you wanted to go somewhere else, we could. I still have no idea what I am really doing with my life but I like a lot of the things I have now. I would like to keep those.

I don't care where I am. [ well. ] Admittedly I like warmer climates, but like. It's never been about where I end up so much as who with. You and the girls have always been the endgame. I...forgot for a while, I guess. But I'm me.

[ it's a confused way of saying his goals are what they were back then because he. thinks of that life first, these days. ]

[And it's for reasons like that that John knows he's making the right decision to keep his mouth shut. It's not...attraction, or anything like it. It's an intense sort of affection, something bred from being best friends over several timelines and lifetimes and Dave's always put everything in reference to the four of them and when he takes a moment to think about it, John knows that's correct.

That was the goal back then. That was the point of the new universe. The four of them being together.

This, whatever it is, would throw off that dynamic and it's not something he can afford. Being affectionate with your best friends is perfectly normal. It's comforting. In a weird way, hearing him say that actually makes his chest ache a little but he ignores it because at the same time it feels right.

The four of them were the endgame. It's why he went back in time to fix everything. It's why he did everything that he could to be with them.

Somewhere in all of that his grip on Dave's hand grows a little tighter.]

You are my favorite version of you. [He remembers a few versions of Dave, but this one at least has the same experiences and ideas and a lot of the same memories.] Maybe we are supposed to travel again, go to where Jade is. Maybe that is what we are missing. But I think we can still get there someday.

[Given he was looking at Dave, it's not hard to notice it slip away but he doesn't know how to address it. Dave's confirmation that he'll at least try is something he can live with. It's not the perfect answer, but so what? It's something they can work on together.]

...I do, but okay. [Care about details. John's happiness isn't the only thing that matters and it's, again, why he keeps some things to himself even as he begins to skate again, weaving through a few other skaters and the snow while Dave films.]

Anything by Neil Gaiman. I have not read everything he's ever written or anything, but most of the stuff he's had a part in I've liked a lot. [John read stuff over the summer.] And it's...Jurassic Park for you. And fantasy stuff that isn't modern.

Believe it or not, I remember pretty much most of what you actually say, idiot. And anyway you say that like you do not think dinosaurs are still the best thing ever and I am calling bullshit on that because there is a bunch of dead stuff living in our room.

Yeah. Looking back, a lot of how I grew up in this life is similar to how things were back there. I still liked magic. I still liked the paranormal. And obviously movies and music. And the ocean and everything that lives in it. Stuff like that.
