Can your camera even do video? Or just your phone?

No, but my video camera can? If you’re chill with that. It would be easier.

...[Hm.] Yeah, I guess that's fine. [He doesn't mind the handholding, really, but he doesn't think on that.] What exactly do you have in mind though just videoing whatever?

Okay, just...give me a second. [ he drops john’s hand and tosses the camera in his sylladex and seconds later pulls out the video camera he stuffed in there as well. that gets slid on over his left hand, the strap secure as he powers it up and messes with settings, still absent mindedly skating, but after that his right hand grabs john’s again and he adjusts the view. ]

So, John Egbert. What would you do with a million dollars?

[He lingers close by and keeps his balance up, letting Dave take his hand again and squinting a little at the camera even as the snow falls.]

Is that the first interview question of the day? [He's snickering anyway.] God, I don't know. A lot of things? A vacation is up there but so is making sure Nanna was set up to retire comfortably.

[ dave’s fingers are cold but they’re firmly wrapped around john’s hand. ]

[Asking him not to think while this is happening is a little overcomplicated, but he can manage. So. He skates along with his hand in Dave's and says what comes to mind.]

Somewhere warm, maybe. Or somewhere in Europe. Both places seem cool for different reasons.

Europe has lots of places with a lot of history, but I'm somehow not sure that's part of your reasons? You're not one for museums, I'm pretty sure.

Nope! It would mostly be for the food and atmosphere. [Thanks John.] It seems like a fun place to tour because it's so different from here. That is why I want to go. Otherwise I'd just go to like Hawaii or something.

I can't believe you could go to Europe and not see, like...the Parthenon, St. Mark's Basilica, the Globe. The Louvre? There's so much stuff.

I never said I wouldn’t see those things, you know. I would still like to since they are classics. But I would also go just to meet people and experience life there for a while.

I strongly suspect you'd get bored at the Louvre.

Isn't the Louvre that huge art museum? I might, but at least I could check it out for a little while. I think experiencing life is just being an active part of it. Trying things. Engaging with people? The little things that make up a bigger picture.

So tell me about a thing you want to experience but haven't.

[A confused look. But okay, so they're skating side by side, hand in hand, and Dave's still filming.]

In general. First thing to come to mind, a thing you want to do but haven’t yet.

Swim with turtles. [He looks surprised to say that though and he shuts up immediately.] ...snorkeling and scubadiving just seem neat.

That wasn’t what you expected to say?

Well no. It is definitely a thing I really want to do though but it sounds kind of lame in comparison. Skydiving was on that list, too, but now that I can fly it seems so dumb.

Are all the experiences on your list vacationy thrillseeking?

No of course not. There are things I want to do that fall right into cliche crap that maybe will happen someday like...I don’t know, sunset walks on the beach or sharing a milkshake or seeing the northern lights. A new thing added to my list now is beat you in a race.

Maybe you should keep your list to plausible items?

I really don't think I do. [ or he does, but he finds the plausible implausible. or there's just implausibilities that he can't do anything about:

talk to dirk and roxy again and have them remember. jade coming back, and some stupid fourway friend date. stupid cliched holiday bullshit he doesn't bother thinking about beyond "that'd be neat" and which he never has done. going home, but he isn't certain where he means by that these days. ]

Can I say ballroom dance competition even though I don't like competition all that much?

You could, but I might judge you a tiny bit. [No he won't.] ...to be honest they do seem sort of neat. A huge ballroom and all of the fancy dresses and suits, a live orchestra and a bunch of people moving in sync under a fuckton of chandeliers. It sounds kind of cool to see.
