I've had this conversation with a lot of people. I believe it's real, too. Nothing else really makes sense. How can you explain the physical changes, the powers, all of that kind of stuff if it wasn't real?

...but our situation is a little unique, I will admit.

Denial is a drug. [ a shrug. he winces when he shrugs, like an idiot. just let john rub your neck and shoulders moron. ]

I'm not denying anything, babe. [That wince is telling and he lets up a little, changing his strategy a bit and using the heels of his hands more than his fingertips.]

It probably feels better when it's not centralized pressure points like it is with my fingers. [He's just assuming maybe that's what Dave's talking about.]

Not that. The fingers felt good too though.

Yeah? [He's still using his palms though.] Do I get to know what you mean this time or am I guessing?

Yeah. It felt good. [ he winced because he twisted his head wrong. ] I like it when you call me things.

I will keep that in mind. [As promised, his fingers are raised up on the tips and rotating in circles on his skin.] And that, too. ...I think it kind of just slips out. It makes sense to me.

I haven't annoyed you yet, have I? [ with names. he's prone to some extremely stupid and southern ones, although "babe" and "darlin'" do tend to win out.

Nah. I think it's kind of cute, actually? It doesn't annoy me at all.

I'd prefer hot but I'll take cute. Fuck. [ he rolls a shoulder again, this time with better luck. ] Okay, you win.

Call me something that turns me on and I'll call it hot. Duh, Dave. [But he smiles lightly as he continues loosening Dave's shoulders and back.] How's that?

Do you even have nicknames like that? And yeah that's...better. You can stop if you're tired? [ habitual looping to "you don't have to dote" even though he asked for this. ]

[There's a harder push which means he's not going to bother stopping yet.]

If I do, I don't know what they are but I am sure you will surprise me somehow.

Mm. I guess I have some ideas. [ but he doesn't say anything further so apparently they're secret ideas. ]

So what you're saying is you are going to surprise me when I least expect it. [He's working his hands down Dave's spine and more toward his lower back now.]

[ another of those soft feels-nice sighs tinged with a hum-moan, too quiet. it takes a minute to register john's remark, and dave just laughs in the breathy way he gets when he's edging on relaxed and sleepy, southern drawl thick and heavy and low for the same reason: ] Exactly that, darlin'.

[...it's sometimes a little overwhelming how much he likes this boy, but here they are. It's for that reason he doesn't speak immediately while he applies pressure and movements over his spine and near his hips. Dave asked for a neck massage but he's usually pretty tense in general so John figures he's helping.]

Thanks a lot. Knowing you, it will be at some point where it will mean my hands are tied or it's something embarrassing.

[ is that any sort of defense here...he's still leaning back into john's touch rather like a cat. their own cat is sprawled half on one of dave's legs, purring as he pets her idly. and john isn't wrong that dave is usually tense. he's also usually weirdly flexible but terrible posture and amped up paranoia do little for knots up and down his back. ]

That's not an excuse to keep flustering me. [But he's laughing under his breath anyway because yeah, fair.] No wonder you and the cat get along. Terrors. [He's concerned by how worked up Dave's muscles are but his voice is calm and his hands are moving to loosen everything up for him. A stiff back leads to stiff shoulders and a stiff neck anyway.]

Is so. I think being flustered is good for you, too. Keeps you from gettin' overconfident.

When have I ever been overconfident when it comes to you? [A playful poke.]

You have flashes of it. [ he's not ticklish so the poke gets no real response... ]

Only when I know what really gets to you, I think. [There's a playful grin even if he pokes him again.] But that is different.
