[ his left hand shifts and trails up to grip john's jaw. ] No, you first. [ it's a light hold. ]

[Oh. Okay.] ...I just want to kind of...[How do you even explain this.] ...I didn't know what to do when you didn't remember.

[ he has no idea wtf john wants to do still. ]

...I want to make you breakfast and stuff. [That's. Closer.] And just keep you next to me until Sunday.

[Because he started letting his mind wander before it wandered back, and now it's mundane and he's not being weird anymore.]

You said you'd kill someone if I asked. [ a typical non-sequitur if someone doesn't know how he operates. he's probably angling for something else entirely and using the big ridiculous thing he wouldn't ask for anyway as a benchmark of acceptable requests. ]

Yeah. Is that something we're doing today on our day off? [It's a lazy kind of response because he knows by now that Dave's angling for...something. He's not sure what entirely, but he knows Dave well enough to just roll with it.]

Nah, too much effort. [ like that's the only thing in the way, and dave wouldn't rather get himself killed in 99% of situations rather than risk it happening to anyone else, but whatever. if he ever had to kill someone (why) he'd do it himself rather than ask john.

he's looking shifty. ] You can say no. [ to...? but he just sits up again, hands trailing to cover john's at his hips. ]

Right, of course. That kind of gets in the way of a day off. [But...hm? He settles for watching Dave's hands and letting him sit up, doing nothing to push or pull away.] Can't say yes or no if I don't know what it is, babe.

[ finishing his sentences would help maybe. ] It's stupid. [ clarification: ] Little harder?

[ a clarification that could maybe use a clarification but he shifts his hands off john's and seems at a loss for a second, debating. ]

I mean. Leave somethin'. I dunno. [ a distraction or something to hold onto. like when he'd asked john to leave a hickey on his neck, but a different variety of stupid. he doesn't explain what he's thinking further, just letting john do whatever john plans to do, if john even understood the request. don't kill someone, but leave a bruise on dave. he's not sure if that's worse or better by john's standards and doesn't bother to hazard a guess. ]

[For a moment, no, he has no idea what the hell Dave's asking for. He raises an eyebrow and he waits for an explanation. When it comes (vague as it is), there's a look of understanding. A hand reaches up to brush through Dave's hair, lips pursed in thought as he thinks that over.]

...only with my teeth. I'm not hurting you with my hands. Deal? [It's a very oddly specific way of saying it, but at the same time it's like asking someone to pinch you to make sure you're not dreaming. Dave's always gone to the extremes anyway.]

[ dave considers that and shrugs, seeming to stall out for a second or two. it's acceptance as he debates whether or not it's enough to go on.

it's one of his split second decisions when he moves again, hauls his shirt back off and throws it wherever, then immediately leans in to kiss john and make it hard to spot the differences anyway. cowardice or simple desire or both.

the differences are easy enough anyway. leaner than he was when he ate regularly and rarely bothered with junk, and littered with scars he's not even going to attempt to explain. what he didn't quite manage to get across was that he'd like something else to carry around if he has to have the scars back, too.

it's one of those dumb little impulses that he's not sure how to explain without saying far more than he wants to. ]

[Words would be helpful because it's not like John's really registering any of the scars until Dave's very up close and personal. His eyes widen in surprise as soon as the shirt's off and he doesn't get time to say anything because there's suddenly kissing and okay, yeah, he can comply just fine.

His hands are immediately at Dave's hips and gripping tightly, aware of Dave against him being lighter than the weight he got used to over the last month. His hands don't quite stray because he doesn't know what he can and can't touch, what part does and doesn't belong to him right now.

Still, it's a hard and bruising kiss right back, sucking in air through his nose to breathe as his fingers dig into Dave's skin and his lips part immediately. Explanations can come later, but for now he's going to just...experiment to figure it out. How badly will Dave freak out if his hands wander a little higher, he wonders? He tests it tentatively, also moving to nip at Dave's mouth instead.]

[ it's grounding. fingers digging into his skin but ones he wants there, john's familiar touch in unfamiliar circumstances. it's that feeling he'd wanted when he'd asked but he's never been great at explaining the weirder things he asks of his boyfriend.

every other time john's hands have wandered dave has grabbed a wrist and stopped him cold.

this time he doesn't do that, twisting his hands in john's shirt to stop himself. he'll tense if he feels fingers brush over any of those scars but he won't stop john doing it, focusing instead on kissing back a little too desperately. ]

[He still has no idea what, exactly, is going on but it doesn't bother him much. Instead he's letting Dave twist up his shirt and his hands are careful and solid as they shift higher and over Dave's sides and back. The scars are under the palms of his hands but he doesn't linger much, just kind of getting a sense of what Dave actually looks and feels like while he can. He doesn't entirely understand what Dave's after but he'll give him anything that'll make this seem more real.

It's also why he slips his tongue into Dave's mouth and deepens the kiss. Desperate is apparently not a word in his vocabulary at the moment.]

[ lighter than he was and with the build of a guy who spends too much time with a blade rather than a different kind of athletics. a little cold but that's hardly unusual for dave. john doesn't linger or stop things and it gets dave to ease up a little, whatever he was worried about not immediately occurring. it's not like john isn't used to his hands, calloused with a few old scars.

at least he's incredibly used to frenching his boyfriend at this point and reacts only to adjust for an easier angle, hands stilling as he stops what was maybe going to be an attempt to get john's shirt off out of a sense of fairness in order to not actually stop kissing. john has to remain shirted forever now. no other options.

dave doesn't bother to inform john about this since it would also mean he'd have to stop, but his grip loosens and he lets his own hands wander without any actual aim. ]

[They're differences he can spot the longer he thinks about it and the longer he analyses Dave. This was more the Dave he was used to, and even though he'd loved the Dave from the month before he smiled much easier and allowed him to be as affectionate as possible, this was the Dave that he loved more than anything else he could think of.

The difference was clear, and while it wasn't love versus not loving, it was the kind of effect of love that was different.

Frenching his boyfriend is still one of John's favorite hobbies, currently, and it's almost mindless and comforting to be able to do so. He doesn't care that he's stuck in his shirt (well, he kind of cares, but he doesn't want to stop either) and instead it's moving mouths and wandering hands. He shudders a little under Dave's hands even through the fabric of his t-shirt (reactive by touch more than most people) and his hands slide back down Dave's sides and thumbs press into his hips.

It's harder to stay in full control after a month of Dave minding less, but he manages to keep the lower half of his body still and focus on kissing instead. He does, however, relax a little more to give Dave more space and liberty to touch. So that's a thing.]

[ the part where dave is mostly quiet didn't change much, at least. maybe a little more prone to laughing and random asides the last month but it's not like he'd never derailed their activities with badly timed hilarity even beforehand. any sounds he makes are always soft, but he muffles them more automatically now than he did before, swallowing a startled little thing when john's thumbs press in and dave presses closer, catlike and mindless.

he has no idea where the cat is. hopefully not nearby. john relaxes and dave compromises about the shirt by just shoving his probably too cold hands underneath.

two birds, one stone. john can warm up his hands and dave can feel up his boyfriend's chest. multitasking is fun, probably, except maybe if john didn't want cold hands on him. ]

[The cat is probably asleep downstairs or roaming the house which is for the better while her dads are doing whatever the fuck they're doing. He doesn't mind the quiet, delicate sound and his hands drag Dave closer into him.

On the other hand, yeah, he wasn't expecting cold hands and there's a yelp of surprise that gets muffled into Dave's mouth. Still, he doesn't pull away and after a few moments he arches up a bit into Dave's hands. It's full permission to touch him and in return, his fingers start to crawl up Dave's spine slowly just for the sake of touch.

He shifts a little, murmuring against Dave's mouth a little but nothing audible or even important. This isn't bruising but...he likes this better.]

[ there's a laugh at the yelp so no sympathy is being given and dave doesn't really know or care what he's doing. any other time he'd be more worried about it, but it wasn't like the no bed rule had really done jack shit on john's birthday in the music room. he'd reacted more to hands at his hips but there's the sort of shiver you get when someone touches your spine just so, kind of weird and tingly and neither good nor bad.

it's not entirely charted territory even though he's gotten john's shirt off before. dave traces idle patterns on john's skin, words and shapes that john probably doesn't catch.

there's a curious-annoyed hum when john starts to speak because he wants to know wtf john is saying but also still doesn't want to stop kissing him. ]
