[ there's a laugh at the yelp so no sympathy is being given and dave doesn't really know or care what he's doing. any other time he'd be more worried about it, but it wasn't like the no bed rule had really done jack shit on john's birthday in the music room. he'd reacted more to hands at his hips but there's the sort of shiver you get when someone touches your spine just so, kind of weird and tingly and neither good nor bad.

it's not entirely charted territory even though he's gotten john's shirt off before. dave traces idle patterns on john's skin, words and shapes that john probably doesn't catch.

there's a curious-annoyed hum when john starts to speak because he wants to know wtf john is saying but also still doesn't want to stop kissing him. ]

[It's novelty of being able to, he'll drift back down to Dave's hips in a moment but his hand's flat against his back and running over each vertebrae and over his shoulders. And yeah, the no-bed rule really didn't do much for them but he's been patient about everything since then. He's letting Dave set their pace and when Dave doesn't immediately bolt John relaxes further.

Even if Dave's hand's are cold.

He doesn't know what Dave's doing, simply recognizing it as touch and he presses up into his hands further still. He doesn't plan on sharing what he's saying though and instead settles for a more content and less desperate kiss. They have time, and his hand shifts to wrap around Dave's hip again, pulling his hips down into John's just a little while taking Dave's lower lip to suck briefly. At least the talking stopped, but he's kind of officially in "feeling up my boyfriend" mode, so sorry about that Dave.]

[ another too quiet lost little sound in the back of dave's throat but he doesn't make an effort to stop john pulling his hips down either. he does dig his fingernails into john's skin before letting go and pulling back, tugging at john's shirt before he starts to move again, trying to shift off of john and back over to his side of the bed on his back instead. there's no real effort to drag john anywhere as he does so. ]

[Dave's letting go and John doesn't quite follow, but he does let Dave move even if he attempts to follow. He's not sure what to do to get his shirt off since that message is loud and clear, but...he'll settle for still kissing. He's not breaking this first thank you very much.]

[ dave breaks it easily as he flops onto his back and raises his eyebrows. john can follow or not but he's waiting for something. ]

[...he raises his eyebrows back. But he's also sitting up enough to strip out of his shirt and ball it up, throwing it somewhere else before he settles to shift and roll on top of Dave instead. He's giving him a questioning look but he's also not sure this is what Dave meant so...hi.]

I was promised teeth. [ like that's some sort of explanation at all, although at least he automatically helps balance john, hands at his hips as he shifts his legs a little to give john more room. more quietly: ] I'd rather have marks from you.

[ than a past life goes unsaid. ]

[A soft laugh.] You were, yeah. [He shifts again, not quite as flexible as Dave but enough that he can bend so they're closer together.] ...can I leave a few? [He still doesn't quite get the connection, but he can sort of assume given what he's seeing now versus last month.]

You have all day. [ instead of "yes".

it's essentially "yes" anyway. ] You gonna freak out if I move my hands?

[His first question is "move them where" but he doesn't say it out loud. Instead, he tips his head enough to lightly bite at Dave's shoulder.]

...nah. Are you?

Why the fuck would I do it if I was gonna. [ he specifically stopped kissing john once to ask if he could stick his tongue in john's mouth. and about the hickeys. and about a dozen other things that probably were more awkward to ask about than to just roll with. but he'd rather ask than push when john's sexuality has been a thing dave has worried about. he tilts his head aside so john can do whatever wherever easier and he doesn't have to look him straight in the eyes. ] So hypothetically if I wanted to touch your ass and promised not to rap about it?

[ is that promise supposed to sell the idea better. ]

[Just a Look. Really Dave? Really? But he settles for grabbing part of Dave's skin between his teeth, tugging a little and sucking to begin leaving a mark.]

Do not rap about my ass...but the rest is okay. [It's...something to think about, at least. He's more comfortable with his bisexuality than he was when they first started dating, and he knows they've been going slow out of a handful of reasons, but at least when he thinks about Dave touching him anywhere below the belt (even clothed) he doesn't automatically shut down. That's progress.]

[ dave asked but now he just keeps his hands at john's hips instead of trying to feel john up at all. ] If you loved me you'd let me rap about it.

[You can't just not touch him after making it into a thing, Dave.] I love you enough that I am not at all surprised you want to rap about my ass? How would that even work anyway?

[ watch him? ] It ain't like ass is hard to rhyme. Or any of the many various synonyms.

[...he hates that he's going to fall for it, but:] Prove it.

You ain't allowed to give me sass about your ass. [ it's not quite a rap, and he doesn't bother to make it flow exactly, but he keeps going and it's easier than addressing why he hasn't made any moves at all. he just said "rhymes" even if he does start to kind of fall into the rhythm he gets when he starts rapping about something stupid. ] It's first class, defies the conservation of mass, grab a boarding pass. Think it's an impasse, jackass. Pumped my nerves full of bass.

[ and then, just to apparently be really sure he killed any sort of mood: ] Could go into an entire verse about caboose versus apple juice. Though if we went with booty you'd probably punch me if I went with fruity. Tour of duty. Not exactly the right frame of mind though? Tours of duty bring punishment to mind.

[ he can keep going. ]

[There is immediately all sorts of regret and he drops his head onto Dave's shoulder.]

Okay, okay, I take it back. Stop rapping about my ass and never put it in the same context as apple juice. [A beat.] Unless it's that you like both. I can accept that.

You'll never know since you made me stop. [ he lifts his hands away but instead of touching john just stretches his arms out over his head. ]

You can tell me you like my ass without rapping about it, jackass. [But Dave's arms move and John...pouts. That's getting further away?]

So...? [But he's also moving to press a kiss to Dave's collarbone and his shoulder as he shifts down.]

You're oppressing my freedom of expression. [ dave just waits to see what john means by "so", humming a little under his breath. ]

How dare I. [But he's moving and continuing to mouth his way down to Dave's chest apparently, biting a little as he goes.] What're you going to do about it?

I haven't decided yet. [ he lets john move down his chest, fingers flexing above his head before he laces them together. ]

Are you thinking about it? [...give him a second to tongue over one of Dave's nipples just to see if he still freaks out when they're touched.]

[ like.

no one in this lifetime has ever used their mouth there. dave jolts and at least his hands move solely to cover his own mouth. ]
