There's...a way I never want you to look at me, I guess. It was about that, and about wanting you in ways I didn't have you yet. [ he elaborates: ] Not like this. I mean, like. My best friend. I still missed you back then.

I guess that makes sense. Everything back then I think was a little weird for both of us for a few reasons. Back then, I think I was just starting to think of things differently so I am pretty sure I was not helping the case.

You mean, like, thinkin' of me as your best friend? [ that's super fair. ] Sometimes I think about who I was last February and it feels like it was a decade ago. Or an entire lifetime? So. I get it and I got it, but I miss people sometimes anyway.

It's...complicated. Yes, you're right, I was thinking of you as my best friend but I was thinking of you as my roommate and my best friend and someone I wasn't sure if I was imagining things and who I was and blurred lines...stuff like that. I miss people, too, but I am also kind of glad for the way things are.

[Probably important sO. After Natalie leaves, John's still on the bed and leaning against the headboard, watching the door close behind her before he frowns softly.]

So...how many hours do we have now?

Much as I'd like to turn back time and give us a full on extra day or five... [ it might lean on his energy reserves a little. ] ...not enough, but an acceptable amount.

That's a good enough answer I guess. ...I can make us dinner and we can just stay in? Unless you have another idea.

Depends. You want to go out or just stay here?

Is it still in town? [But yeah, he digs out the keys and tosses them to Dave. This isn't a wrong assumption.]

Yep. Ten minutes top, and I have permission to break and enter. [ he grins, spinning the keys around his finger absently before he heads to the door. ] You're really not that fussy about the car, are you.

[He lifts his eyebrows as he follows but he doesn't quite comment on that, a small smirk showing up and pretty much telling everything. He's fussy about it in a lot of cases, but.]

You haven't wrecked her yet and usually I am in the car with you, so no? Guess not.

Like you wouldn't let me take her out on the town on my own? [ he's holding the doors open for john as they head out for the record. ]

Well. It depends where you're going. [...goddamnit. WHATEVER!! But he heads out and he notices Dave's holding doors for him and the role reversal is a little unusual but he's okay with. Off they go and into the car they get.]
