No, not really. I was just surprised this is a flower shop. [There's a grin.] Just cover next time. I was picking up stuff for myself anyway.

Better than some of the jobs I've had in my life. It's so...colorful. [He's tilting his head to glance around the shop again.] Haven't set foot in one of these for a while.

Yeah. Shifts are kinda competitive, the boss hires a lot of people. But.

And yet somehow you're an assistant manager at 17. [He leans with his back to the counter, hand petting the cat and face turned so he's half-facing Dave and half-looking at the shop. He's counting how many jobs Dave has and while timetravel makes sense, he's not sure he likes it.]

[He knows about the tutoring thing, the movie theater, this job, and the cat café. If there's more, he's probably going to kick Dave's ass.] Loyalty then. That makes more sense.

Why be here if you're here watching the place? [There's a pull from his coffee before he continues.] I still think it's weird that people can just drop off of the network.

I also am not bad at my job, which helps? Like, admittedly I fuck around on my phone, but it's always when I don't have other shit to do and it goes away when actual customers come in. [ GENERALLY... ] And I guess maybe it is. I...am used to it?

[He lifts his eyebrows, giving Dave an appraising look before he decides to let that thread of conversation go for a little bit. It explains some things, he thinks, but he's not in the mood to go in circles about it yet.]

How would you feel about getting a plant?

For the dorm? [ his eyebrows go up. ] I mean, I'm not opposed, but neither of us have the green thumb.

Yeah. Just a little one? How hard can it be? All we have to do is water the thing and make sure it doesn't bake.

Are you sure we're at the get-a-plant stage of our relationship, Johnny boy?

[ dryly. but he does gesture towards the area with some potted flowers and cacti and whatnot. ]

Ha. Ha. It's not like we're getting a cat together or anything. [He's petting the cat one more time though before he moves to go check out said-potted plants.] I am just saying it'd be nice for the room to have some life to it. Just because we're stuck in one single room doesn't mean it can't look less...blah.

Is that a jab at my decorating skills? Because my side of the room ain't blah; you're the one with all the gray shit.

A thing that is not my fault? Blame the dumb city. [He picks up two small succulents to hold in the palms of his hands.] Something like this.

I do already. It's weird that so many people I know have gray eyes now. [ he shrugs. ] Those are fine with me. I can keep you from killin' them.

Tell me about it. [Speaking as someone with gray eyes. And holding gray plants. He frowns lightly but there's a shrug.] This will look a little more normal if green comes back. But the purple and pinks it in should be good enough. Also I think it will take a lot to kill these.

A'ight. And I voted for blue the other day... [ also dave rings out the two plants and PAYS FOR BOTH ]

I appreciate your thoughtfulness. [It's a semi-dry tone, but he looks surprised suddenly.] Dude! The point was for me to pay for the plants...

You paid for coffee? Also, I get a discount.

[windeity]

That kind of goes against the whole point, but okay. So we are even and now it's back to being my turn for coffee again. [But he's picking up one of the plants to examine it closer, grinning slightly.]

We didn't have a garden or anything at home but a few potted plants always hung out on the window sills in our kitchen. So thanks. [For indulging him in his weird wants and whims, basically.]

It is definitely still my turn for coffee. [ dave. laughs. it's quiet because it's dave and he's not that loud in person, but. ]

And it's chill? I don't have any rules beyond what I gave you, decor-wise. So, like...have at it, man.
