[Four hours later I'm still mad at this thread...]
It would be the same for me. We were friends before I remembered who you were. Or, at least, I wanted to be. I think we were still on probation.
[He's probably not moving for a bit.] ...you're the first person I have ever seen in this kind of dream. Usually I just spend hours waiting. I think I'm lost on what to do next.
So, [ so... ] Wake up, Egbert. And go drag me inside, like you want to. I'll help you sort out your math. You'll lose track of what I'm sayin' like three sentences in. I'll throw a pillow at you to see if that helps. I don't know - I guess what we do next is just...keep moving?
Bluh...what if I do not want to do my math? It's late and it can probably wait. Keep moving is a good idea though. [But he gives Dave a contemplative look.] You make it sound like you do not actually want to come in though...?
[Why do I keep playing the dumb dark-haired hero...]
See you on the other side, Dave. [He doesn't pull away from Dave, keeping his forehead there but he closes his eyes and slowly starts to fade out and away to end the dream.]
[The dream fades and he wakes up at his desk, facedown on his books and blinking in confusion as he sits up.
...weird dream, maybe. But either way he'll just get up and stretch, grabbing a sweater to head outside in his pajamas up to the roof to retrieve his idiot best friend.]
his idiot best friend is probably still dozing on the roof, arms crossed over is shades and off out of sight, in a too-big sweatshirt. that or he's just not planning on moving. it is a mystery. ]
[Sigh. He'll just approach and have a seat a few feet away, shivering a little at the cold concrete of the roof while watching for a moment. On the one hand, Dave should probably sleep. On the other, if he falls straight into someone else's nightmare that sucks?
So. Give him a second and he throws a balled-up pair of clean socks at Dave's head.]
[ well. there's a reason he told john to toss something instead of shake him, and it's because he lurches immediately into fully awake and his sword is in his hand before he thinks about it, body automatically angling towards the source of the perceived threat.
it takes a second to reorient, dismiss the sword, and toss the socks back. ]
Whoa, hey! [Even if it's a split second he's hyperaware considering he was watching him. He backs away from the sword even if he wasn't in range, and even when it disappears he catches the socks with one hand and gives Dave a quiet look. He says nothing for a moment, but eventually:]
Hey...you still with me? [A tentative grin. The fuck was that about?]
...Yeah. Just...stick to that if you try to wake me up all month. [ or all of his life, at this rate. dave runs a hand through his hair. ] - It's annoying.
Sure. [He stays his distance and watches quietly, fingers threaded together almost nervously.] I have plenty of socks I can throw at you as often as you need me to. Are you--did you go anywhere else?

I don't know if it's weird, or if "weird" even matters with our universe. I just want you to know you won't have to. Even...if I forgot. You wouldn't.

It's not. The door's not locked, I left it open enough so I could get back in later.

...I'll wake up and come find you. Do you want me to wake you up if you're still asleep up there?
no subject
... [ good question. he opens his mouth to respond and then hesitates. if he knows john is going to wake him, he won't attack, will he?
but what if he forgets between dreaming and waking? ]
Just toss somethin' at me.

He notices the hesitance but doesn't quite know what to do with it, so he looks at Dave for a moment trying to decide what to ask.]
...sure. Okay. [Weird? But okay.] I will figure something out. [...] Are you ready?
no subject
Ready when you are, bro. Wake up.
