[He lets himself be pulled, following along before he hovers to get a better look at the seeds.]
I think I will be the judge of that, dude. What kind of seeds are these? [Says he who's impatient and doesn't think a surprise might be better. But he's also just curious.]
[He doesn't offer to help since he gets the sense Dave wants to do this himself (and that he's used to it) but he nods along. He doesn't jump when the gears appear because he's prepared for it, and one minute it's a mound of dirt and the next it's an actual little tree.]
Whoa. [Give him a moment, he's approaching and crouching down to get a better look.] You grew actual trees.
So at least you have to hit a certain limit before that happens. Wonder why. [He'll just...plop in the dirt to look at the sprouts.] This is pretty cool, dude.
[He turns to look over at him, thoughtful and curious again.] I know. I believe you. [And he's really grateful for that.] But you're doing enough and that is that. It's not like you aren't.
[It's not like John who's still doing a bunch of stuff but not really focusing on one specific project to work on.]
[Ah. Silence again, but he looks at the sprouts instead of Dave. He's not entirely sure why, specifically, Dave will listen to him even if he doesn't want to but then again that's always been their friendship. Both of them only really listening to each other when it's really serious.]
...this is fine. It's important, I wouldn't ask you to stop something like this. [And in time, maybe, he'll recognize it wasn't fair to ask Dave not to timetravel at all even if it hurts him. You know. Like when a shadow devours him.]
[He kind of wants to say "no" because it's important for Dave to be around other people and do his own thing, but simultaneously he kind of likes doing things together.]
I can dig holes? [Shrug. So that's a "yes" if Dave can use the extra hand.]
[Eventually he'll stop thinking about other people and just assume they're doing everything together but the cautious grin gets a wider one from John.]
Okay, then I guess that is that. I can probably find a shovel somewhere and we can get everything planted!
Technically we are still on a walk so we can look for a shovel now? I have enough slots in my 'dex I can just keep it there for whenever. I was talking to this girl who had a bunch of seeds that the birds kept trying to eat, but she didn't know what they were.
Really? Beats having to wait around forever for them to grow. [He pats the dirt around the base of the sprout.] These are going to be really cool when they are fully grown.

You want to see what it is I do?
no subject
Yeah. Sure.

[ he reaches out to pull john over to the empty plot, lets go and goes through his inventory to pull out a handful of seeds. ]
It's not gonna look that cool.

[ it's a little slow, getting the holes dug for them and putting them in and covering them up. ]
I only do a few a day. [ because he doesn't want john to scold him....
dave holds his hands out and then there's gears and time and movement...
to a small sprout of growth. these seeds will go through years in weeks but for now they only sprout a foot or two high.
which is a thing. ]

[ he leans back, just staying in his knees. dave doesn't look too overdrawn or anything and that's what he meant john to see. ]
It takes energy but I don't overdo it.

Now or later? Because it's like, an ongoing project and people occasionally find new seeds.
