If we had foil, you could prepare them, put in other vegetables and spices and wrap it in the foil before placing it directly in the fire. Sweet potatoes are excellent roasted even with nothing else.
A pot would work, though we'd probably want to put water in it and boil them instead. It may be good to make some kind of stock with other vegetables and prepare a stew... or a soup.
A soup base. You usually use it as the starting point for most soups... for vegetable stock, you may choose a number of vegetables and cook them all in water in a pot together for several hours. Chicken stock is similar, except with the addition of chicken. So on.
You would then save that water, your "stock", and could use it to make a soup or in other recipes.
Excellent. In that case, it should be an easy task to make an ice box to preserve food.
