Since we're already out here we can at least check out the back yard, too. Should be pretty decent-sized, get an idea of if it's safe and fenced in enough for Mewpac some afternoons we're home.

Yeah, okay Jasmine. Come on, I'll show you the world. [He's holding out a hand? He's fully intending for them to jump off of the roof and fly toward the back yard but Dave has to hold his hand anyway. For reasons. (The reasons being he likes holding hands.)]

but dave just immediately takes john's hand without making the connection so. ]

[He takes Dave's hand and immediately pulls them off the roof so they can fly. Hopefully Dave catches himself but even so John's holding him up by his arm for a bit before heading to the backyard.]

[ there's a yelp. john is lucky dave has killer reflexes? after he's yanked off the goddamn roof he just drapes himself on john though fuck you john ]

[Dave drapes and John laughs, flying them to the back yard.]

So as you can see this backyard is spacious and perfect for our child's needs. The fence could be extended but if we are in a neighborhood I don't think Mewpac will wander that far. [Once they land though he pauses, noticing a few fixtures in the backyard. Namely, there's the swing set and the green slimer pogo ride sitting there.]

...it also apparently comes equip with entertainment. [A grin.]

I did not say that. [Tempting. He's keeping a hand on Dave's arm even while Dave's on his back and he begins walking toward the pogo.] This is the thing from that picture Rose used in her walkthrough thingy, huh?

[ don't drop him and go ride on the thing!! not that he'd argue if john did. but he's not getting off on his own right now. ] You didn't have to say it, I just know how you operate. And yeah, it is. Though less...free bouncing.

[LET HIM LIVE but no he's not as prone to giving in to his more whimsical urges when he's still toting Dave around, so there's that. He's just walking closer to it to kind of nudge it with his hand.]

I refuse to believe I am that predictable. And even if I am, shut up. [A smirk.] This is so...weird. Seeing all of this. And knowing it's ours? That is the part that baffles me.

[ unfortunately, dave chooses this moment to drop off of john's back and onto his feet, because he wants to walk around to see john's face. ]

...[A nod.] Where making this happen. [A grin. Even in this lifetime he'll reference SBaHJ apparently.] I think we should look at the rest of the upstairs and make sure everything is in tact but...it would seem dumb not to. You know?

[ dave cracks a fleeting grin, although it's probably more about the reference than it isn't. ] So...okay. We have to decide what we're doing space wise anyway.

[windeity]

If I remember the layout right, upstairs are the two bedrooms and one bathroom, plus the balcony which you already saw. Downstairs is the living room, the kitchen, the laundry room, and the study. So we have a lot of ground to cover?

[A beat.] Your turntables will have room. And we could maybe turn the closet in my old bedroom into a home studio? [A dark room.]

Isn't the closet kinda important? [ he has no idea where the fuck they're sleeping since he'll just agree to any room layout john wants but ] But that sounds...cool. Lead the way to room numero dos. Or uno??

I don't know. I assume we have a couple of them so we can check? [Shrug. But he's taking Dave's hand and dragging him toward the house even while shooting a longing look at the pogo ride.] I think in this case it's numero dos and my old bedroom was numero uno. If we are going in order.

I hope you're okay with stairs in the house, too, since that is a thing. I think when I was envisioning where we were moving I thought everything would be on one floor.

Yeah, but wouldn't a closet in the bedroom be important? [ "the", so at least he's...tentatively assuming they're still agreed on the rooming scenario not changing up. he just has no idea which bedroom john plans to move them into. ]

I don't mind stairs. Way less than I had back in the day. [ THE STRIDERS HAD A LOT OF STAIRS ] Just don't fall down them. Or you know exactly what I'll do.

I definitely know what you'll do if I fall down stairs. [Back into the house they go. This leads them through the laundry room where there's definitely a washer and dryer sitting there. It also brings them through the kitchen to go back to the living room.]

We have two bedrooms so unless you think we need two closets? [...well actually.] Unless we use the other closet for storage and stuff. And there are cabinets all over that stuff can be stored in so that part is taken care of.

Which bedroom? [ john, please explain more or better. ]

...we can look at the second bedroom and decide which one we want to stay in. Sound good? [He's already hauling him upstairs and down the little hall toward the second room. On the other hand, he doesn't immediately open the door.]

Need me to open it? [ asked fairly quietly. ]

No. No, I can do it, it's just. [He doesn't have words exactly. Daddy issues, yes, but not words. Eventually though he sets his jaw and he straightens up, using his free hand to open the door

and stare into the empty bedroom.
