Of course it is. [ dave's awake, obviously, but he doesn't see any point in moving from where he's curled up against john's side, leeching heat and comfort. ] I hate winter, let's boycott it.

Absolutely not. [There's a slight laugh even from where he's burrowing his face in Dave's hair.] I happen to like winter a lot. Would you seriously deny my happiness?

Does it count as denying your happiness if I ask you to boycott winter for a day in bed with movies sometime? [ not today which john is in charge of but ]

I guess not. That actually sounds like a really good plan...[He's also pulling the covers over them a little more instead.] But we can do that in the spring and summer too right?

I don't mind doing that in spring and summer. But I'm less likely to boycott those immediately just for existing. [ still. he opens his eyes, readjusting his shades idly. ] ...But it is Christmas and I won't make you boycott it happening at all.

[His glasses are off and he's still curled up into Dave anyway before there's a grin.]

[There's a slightly embarrassed smile.] My back kind of hurts so I will just have to make up for it later. That's all.

[ dave sighs and pulls away. ] Flip over, then.

What, why? [That actually gets him to open his eyes and he looks at Dave curiously.] I was just going to take some aspirin again eventually. [He 100% doesn't get it.]

[ how can his boyfriend be this dumb. dave’s sitting up and stretching, dislodging the covers. he motions for john to get on his stomach. ] Just trust me for a little, will you? Why do you only get uncompliant when it’s for your own good?

[Ugh. He pouts up at Dave for a second before he carefully rolls to lay on his stomach.]

Because it's Christmas and I am supposed to be spoiling you? Duh, Dave.

Just relax, dumbass. It doesn’t have to go all one way. [ ignore him as he shifts entirely out of the covers, knocking them out of the way, to balance with his knees to either side of john, not resting any weight on him. it’s pretty obvious why he asked, since his hands - not cold at the moment for a wonder - immediately press into john’s back. he remembers where the bruises are and avoids them, but. he literally just intended a back massage apparently. ]

[That's weirdly nice and he presses his face back into his pillows once Dave's hands start moving against his back.] I know it doesn't, but it's Christmas. [Mumbled, but he's allowing this. The bruising's faded by a lot but the cold's left him a little sore.]

Speaking of...today's agenda isn't as busy as yesterday's. Is that okay?

How is Christmas stupid? [There's a slight noise of contentment but he lets Dave's hands continue.]

The idea that one person spoiling the other has to go all one way because of a holiday is stupid.’Its not like Christmas is my birthday. Even if it were that sentiment would be slightly dumb? [ and tbh if john just goes back to sleep and misses christmas dave wouln’t bat an eye. ]

Well I like spoiling you on the regular anyway but I get your point. [Yeah his eyes are definitely closing again.] But we have presents and stuff under the tree.

[What tree? At some point, John definitely bought a small table-top tree. The only ornament on it are the four baubles colored for the betas aspects that John made and the ornament Dave made him. There's also a small stack of gifts.]

We’ll get to them whenever. [ dave’s voice is quiet and he simply keeps working. he’s at least competent at giving a massage although he’s reasonably sure emil is better. ]

If you say so...your hands are really good. [Needless to say he likes this a lot and there's a shift as he buries his face into his pillow.] It's almost unfair.

Yeah? Well, I’ve done dance all my life. [ ...how is that related ] And I’m a decent reverse engineer.

Good on your feet, good with your hands. I think I get it. Consider me lucky then. [He finally turns his head out of the pillow to face Dave as best as he can.] You're my favorite person, I hope you know that.

[ sometimes he does? other times he gets insecure. for the moment dave breaks his own quiet rule about not kissing john in bed, a weirdly polite and cautious thing, to lean down and drop a kiss to the corner of john’s mouth, too fleeting. ]

[A quiet laugh but he watches Dave anyway through half-lidded eyes.]

Good to know what may or may not work. It feels really good though...is that a hint I should maybe flatter you more?
