WEEK TWO: SUNDAY AFTERNOON, ROOM 106

[ so after the execution they'll meet up in clementine and emily's room again. dave once again takes a seat by violet on the couch, although this week he is more. neutral? than last week. quieter. whatever.

still, once everyone is settled, he does speak. ]

Last week I ended up goin' into the Library. Pried some of the boards back from the unmarked buildin' and saw inside. Got some books, also saw a huge monster inside. [ he will at least toss out the books they got: mostly science and math shit, but also other things. yay. ] Also went into the buildin' next door to this one. It was a pet shop, there were monsters, I don't recommend it.

[ in the same monotone, as he glances around: ] Not sure what I'm doin' this week. What'd everyone else learn?

[Oh. A touch. He looks... confused by it?

He doesn't get touched a lot ok.]

Uh... I've been stayin' out, like promised. The Innkeeper said that? [??? EMILY TATTLED ON HIM??? WAS HE CALLED OUT??? he's confused]

Yes. He said it wouldn't be good to go in because you could die. Then we wouldn't have anyone to take pictures. And then Dave would get into trouble because no one would be able to protect him.

[splinten]

[....Oh. Oh.

That last part hits even harder. He doesn't dare look at Dave, but his hand slips down and he squeezes Emily's hand gently.]

I'm not plannin' on dyin' any time soon, but I trust you guys to help me look after Dave too.

[There's emotion being held back there, if not perfectly well. It's a low fluctuation underneath the monotone.]

Hey, do you want some of the books we found?

[She trusts Dirk to protect even the most hard-headed, ridiculous Dave despite their help. The talk of books gets a smile.] Yes!

You guys went into the library? The Innkeeper said there was a building of books maybe if I looked... when I asked if I could have some books. I was going to ask Dave if we could find it.

I'm glad you found it already even if there was a monster inside.

We'll hopefully be able to take it out some time for free access to books. Hang on.

[He goes to grab her two books: one is Goodnight Azathoth, the other is The Skeleton Inside You which has a great picture.]

I asked the front desk for philosophy books and was given a few. Maybe if you asked for adventure stories, you'd get a result.

[(unsure) at that Goodnight Azathoth, but she is surprisingly??? okay??? with the fucking skeleton book. Very factually informative. So many bones. SKELETONS. If only they made shitty puns.

But this is fine. She seems rather happy and curious about them as he brings them back.] This one is what's on our insides. Mister Sokolov has told me about this before! He's the Royal Physician, so he knows all about our insides.

What is "Goodnight Azathoth"?

I think it's supposed to be like a bed time story. I saw it on the way in. [So he just. Grabbed it? Because??]

Glad you like the skeleton book. Do you like that kind of thing?

Yes. They look eerie, don't they? But they're inside of us.

[She will treasure these books regardless. She loves reading. Unless it has to do with nonfiction that isn't strange.] Mister Sokolov has pictures like these too. And some of organs. He says you can't fix insides if you don't know what they look like first, or how they work.

[Upon further inspection, Goodnight Azathoth seems to be better? RIP.] Look! This one has monsters in it. [She smiles, feeling somewhat better after going into the Dark Room and questioning Jason.]

[That counts as an absolute victory to Dirk. He relaxes, although he doesn't smile.] Mister Sokolov is right. When I was a kid, I tried to fix myself up a few times before I knew what I was doing. It was a huge mistake.

[At least she's enjoying the books ok.] Yeah, looks like. Azathoth has a bedtime routine to envy.

[Her smile lingers. It's evident she is charmed by these books; they're better than most she had to read in Dunwall and like those few she coveted full of adventurous tales.] Thank you, Dirk.

If you find anymore interesting books, can I look at them too? Or if you go back inside the library. I know Dave said there was a monster, but--I don't mind seeing monsters. I've never seen a monster before.

Absolutely. We shouldn't focus on the library for now, but I can try to ask Craftly for some more books.
