WEEK ONE: THURSDAY MORNING
[ so, dave wants to broach the topic of a Team with clementine again and has chosen thursday to do it. he'll flag her down the first time he sees her and looks...mostly fine...except a finger on each hand has a splint/is wrapped in the way one would do when they are broken. for the record this is his left pointer finger and his right pinky.
what the fuck is he doing with his life, it is week one. ]
Yo, Clem! Got a sec?

It says I can copy someone's skill, item, or weapon. But I can only do it once, and the person I copy will know someone did it.
no subject
But not who did it? [ BECAUSE THAT SOUNDS PRETTY FUCKING USEFUL STILL, SO LONG AS... ] So you just have to find someone with a useful skill, or you can use it to figure out someone else's skill. Depending.
[ okay then. ]
Bomber. Someone kills me, they blow up in the trial. [ ... ] I'm reasonably sure there's people who're better to copy.
no subject
[ She's not... Pro at socializing, here. ]
... Wait, I don't get yours.
no subject
[ he does not airquote it, but. ]
So my "gift" is "well fuck you, too, dipshit". [ ... ] I can try to find you a role that'll be useful to copy.
[ he's better at socializing and will dedicate himself to the task? lmfao. ]
no subject
[ I mean, I guess it elimates having to figure out who the killer is, but it's too late to save him, so what the heck does it matter, at that point?? Man.
The up-side is that now she'll know why, if someone dies during the investigation, but. Man, that still sucks. ]
I kind of want to copy it. [ She offers a small grin. Just joking. But who doesn't love revenge? ]
no subject
[ and he does kind of smile back even if he sounds a little grim about it. because. yeah. ]
Ems may have somethin' of use, but we won't know until after the trial. The three of us can talk about it...Sunday, maybe? But I'll at least try to see if I can figure out some more roles before then to give you more options on what to do.
[ since. he is apparently just gonna be reckless about himself, even if he is keeping the girls out of these reckless dealings. LIKE...THE BROKEN FINGERS HE HAS NOT EXPLAINED i am so sorry for him. ]
But so far you have literally the coolest one and I am pretty sure that makes you team leader.
no subject
Do you know what Emily can do?
[ She hasn't forgotten about those injuries, she'll get to that. You can't make her team captain and still think ur gettin away with that shit ]
no subject
[ and since he straight up did not care what her role was so much as "hey kid don't tell people your role/let me be on your team plz" he didn't press. ]
So it's either gonna be super useful or super esoteric. You can copy a skill, item, or weapon - that means that all the roles have to fall into one of those three categories. So we all three probably qualify as skill roles.
[ he crosses his arms, careful of his fingers, thinking about it. ]
There have to be roles that can help keep people safe, maybe. Or roles to help figure shit out. If we're goin' based off of "these rules are to keep things interestin'". And I say that with no small amount of sarcasm.
no subject
[ Well, Clem wants to look after Emily whether she even had a role or not, so she guesses this doesn't change much. Interesting that her rules say not to talk about it.
She frowns, watching him take care for his fingers and not making any effort to not be staring a bit. ]
I hadn't thought about it, but I guess... Yeah. If I can copy those different kinds of things, that means that there are people who have items that the rest of us don't.
[ A lot harder to prove a murder when you don't know who has what mystery weapons that weren't public... HMM. ]
no subject
[ for...WHATEVER REASON? finding an item or weapon role to give to clem will probably make this easier to speculate on. ]
I'll keep you updated on anythin' I learn about roles or whatever else, at any rate. If we're lucky, we can find you a really good one. There has to be someone here with somethin' that's like, A+ rank or whatever.
[ are there skill tiers. he doesn't know. but he does finally notice the staring. ]
...So. I may have investigated shit last night with Dirk.
no subject
[ sort of. anyway, she quirks an eyebrow. ]
With the loss guy? [ ....... is that the best way to refer to him ] What happened?
no subject
[ about those. ]
It turns out if you climb one tryin' to get up to the ceiling, you can knock it the fuck over, and if someone else is standin' too close and has to catch it to avoid bein' smashed they can like. Maybe catch it wrong.
[ ....................................
this is exactly as idiotic as it sounds. do you still wanna be teammates, clem. ]
no subject
Why did you want to get up to the ceiling?
no subject
[ :/ ]
I will maybe stand further away from shit the next time someone decides to climb on it.
no subject
[ Also... ]
Did you find anything, or just play dominoes and hurt yourselves?
no subject
It sounds pretty lame that it's pretty much...the latter...
[ GOOD...JOB...STRIDERS? ]
Maybe I should come up with a lie about how I broke my fingers that's like, less completely idiotic. [ like. ] Like, wow, I fought a tentacle monster, and it snapped my fingers before I gallantly drove it away??? Or at least "hell yeah we found somethin'" but then I would need actual information to provide, which...would require us to have found somethin'. Shit.
no subject
Can I see? [ She can tell that they're already set, but still just wants to take a look. Just for peace of mind, okay!!! ]
no subject
[ he will immediately hold out both hands. the fingers do seem to be set and wrapped pretty professionally, presumably by either dave or dirk. dave doesn't seem. too bothered? by them? but. ]
I'll still be able to fight more or less fine, Bro never considered broken bones like, a reason not to strife.
no subject
So he is your brother.
[ She kind of figured, after seeing their last names on the profiles. But, uh, wait now, strifing...? ]
no subject
[ hahahah that's a sticking point, but - ]
"Bro" is the guy who raised me. This will sound completely insane to you, probably, but Dirk? He's...an alternate universe version of that guy. My Bro died last year. Dirk's...version of me died before he was ever born. We'd never met 'till we got here, but I knew he, like...existed.
[ he shifts, uncomfortable. ]
We're...I don't know what we are.
no subject
[ she actually kind of followed that. like, it's fucking weird, obviously, but. okay. she's getting used to weirdness. she's kind of concerned about the strifing with broken bones when you're raising someone business, because what the fuck? But this is an alternate...? So???
w h?? at?? ]
Should he be with us?
no subject
[ good question and it makes dave freeze because he still doesn't know the answer to it, even as he licks his lips. ]
I don't...know. [ because yeah, the strifing with broken bones was a thing and he'd been flippant when he said it but. ] Things are...complicated.
[ how do you trust someone you've known for barely a week who looks and sounds just like the guy who abused you for thirteen years? how do you believe he won't throw you to the wolves for anyone else at all, because you've never mattered to the person he used to be? dave hasn't figured that one out just yet. ]
I didn't...my Bro and I weren't...close. [ normally he'd say they were fine, but she's asking him why dirk isn't here, basically, in the group dave's trying to haul together, and that's why: he simply cannot bring himself to some sort of settled feeling about dirk strider, because he has thirteen years of history weighing him down. ]
no subject
she's been seeing... a lot of complicated brother relationships lately, it seems. she's just had been dealing with something vaguely similar back home - though with less alternate realities involved. but what she's just come from paints her ideas on this. ]
Then we'll leave it for now.
[ 'for now.' maybe that'll change later, if Dirk proves himself to Dave. that's how she's thinking of things. ]
Being family doesn't necessarily mean being... Good.
[ not to say that he's bad. just that he needs to be judged on an individual basis, the same as anyone else in this cluster of people. ]
no subject
[ a helpless shrug. ]
If you do want to pull him in ever, he won't come without English, and they might have other people they're workin' with, too. I don't know.
[ and dave may or may not be a lowkey mess about dirk, but like. he can deal if that's what has to happen. ]
I don't know if he'll want to, either. He...might work with me, I don't know about the rest of you. [ he shakes his head. ] The only other person I'd say bring it off the bat is maybe Violet, if y'all want.
no subject
[ she mulls it over, sort of making a face without meaning to. ] I'm not sure how I feel about Jake, yet. He's nice. And seems like he knows how to fight. But he's... Cheery. [ optimism is a death flag, as far as she's concerned. ]
I haven't talked enough to Violet, but... We're in this together, so if you want her to be with us... [ she can put aside her apprehension for the sake of being a nice leader, right? right. ]
