I don't think I agree with that. [She says, as they walk; she follows his lead.] A statement like "you're very impulsive" is just that. Spontaneity is historically a concept that tends to be valued, even romanticized.

Uh... [Naoto pauses, continuing to walk.] I won't deny that my method of communication does tend to be rather straightforward and brusque, but.

Does it really come off that way?

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-07-24 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I see. [She response, frowning.] That's... not exactly my intention, I'll grant.

Still, an officer of the law shouldn't be in the habit of sugar-coating things, don't you think? I'd rather tell people my unvarnished honest opinions.

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-07-25 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
[That.

Actually makes a great deal of sense.]
I suppose that's not inaccurate.

But in matters like testifying in a court of law, isn't accuracy and straightforwardness better than trying to be diplomatic?

I don't plan on insulting the jury, for the record.

All I'm doing is stating what I believe to be the facts in an honest, unvarnished manner. It's not really that off-putting, is it? [That certainly looks like a museum up ahead. She wonders if it's their destination.]

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-07-28 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well. That's. Certainly direct, isn't it.

Naoto is quiet for a while as she walks with him.]
Then... for my part, I apologize for that. I didn't intend any of what I said as a personal insult.

I don't think that's necessary. I can be... stubborn in my opinions at time, I'll grant that. But it's appreciated all the same?

[It's a long set of steps up to the art museum.] For my part, I've always appreciated direct feedback and criticism. If I'm doing shoddy work, I'd like to know.

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-08-03 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Naoto reaches up to adjust the brim of her cap.]

I'll confess that I don't... understand that. In the slightest. It just seems like a waste of energy and effort to me.

If I'm doing something, I'd like to be good at it, personally.

That is a very different set of values to what I'm used to. I suppose your values are your own, though.

That sounds as good a place as any. I'm not familiar with any local artists or their work.

...do they take chalk art? [Why, did she just crack a joke?]

[personal profile] truedetective 2017-09-01 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[That gives her reason to glance sidelong at him.] You do photography? I wouldn't have guessed.

With or without heavy photoshop jobs in pursuit of some far-off goal of irony?

That sounds like a... completely normal and reasonable hobby to have. [A slight pause.] Not that I really have any grounds to lecture someone on normal hobbies. Mine is solving mysteries.
