Sort of. I'm not sure. I managed to find a weird bug that deleted a few lines of coding that didn't do anything. When I restored it, it didn't make much of a difference. The weird thing is, I have no idea how that bug got there. I looked around for possible ways it could have breached her system and all the security measures should have prevented it.
[Dirk is... genuinely uneasy because of this. Is it ISHMAEL? Is it something with how URSULA herself works? He doesn't know and that means he can't stop it.]
Whether or not that had anything to do with the malfunction, I don't know.
My main issue is that as long as I don't know how the breach happened, I can't defend against it. We still don't have a real plan for how to handle ISHMAEL if it's actively dangerous.
[That isn't getting into what to do if it decides to go after Dave's friends.]
[Dirk knows what Dave is offering. He's thinking about how to do it.] We'd have to find the right metaphorical place for watching it. We know where the code is, and we could open up monitors on all the routes in. If it used those we would probably see the activity. Maybe keep an eye out for any activity that's unusual, although that should have shown up when I looked. If it was somehow erased after the fact, though, maybe that would be the best opportunity...
[IS THIS ACTUALLY POSSIBLE he is trying to decide the best place to look]
That's not a problem. I'm good at avoidin' people and I know where you were or if I don't you obv know. I do know about your range so gettin' around it ain't hard. You'd just need to get in and erase the fact you did while monitoring so you can't notice it scince you ain't mentioned doin' that.
[ but circumventing themselves and everyone else should be child's play, as long as dirk can handle the computer portions?
That isn't the issue so much as I don't know what to look at in URSULA's systems. She said the bug just kind of appeared. I don't know how to watch for the entrypoint of a thing that just appears in code.
Yeah, but as long as we can triangulate the when won't the how be easier at that point? At least we might learn somethin'. Like...surveillance for anything weird. Even if we find nothin', what's the loss?

[Dirk totally believes this. When Dave straightens up, Dirk stretches out a probably numb limb. Once again.]

[ .........dirk. stop letting dave fall asleep on you? ]
You can like wake me up or get me to move to the bedroom when I fall asleep on you, y'know.

[And yet.]

[ he realizes this will not happen, and also, if dirk by SOME FUCKING MIRACLE fell asleep on him ever dave would not so much as breathe. ]
