[ dave, in his super fashionable pjs he's going to wear all the time now, makes an effort to track down luke after the motive talk. but not to talk about the motive because...honestly, he kind of doesn't feel like talking about the motive to murder with anyone? it's all bullshit and dave is kind of hating the fact he's uncertain of whether or not someone's going to take it.

people suck. this sucks.

it's easier to focus on things to do to keep busy, and one thing in particular is better with a partner - that is, strife. if people are going to be trying to off one another (some of the people here do not seem particularly chill so dave just assumes this will be a thing; he isn't a harleybert, he's not an optimist) he should probably keep in top form in order to defend himself (since fuck killing people) and there's only so much he can do training solo. ]

Yo, Luke! Got a sec? I have a proposition for you. Unrelated to the murder shit, cross my heart and stick a needle in my eye or whatever. Actually I never got that saying like, who the fuck came up with that, why would you offer to stick a needle in your eye. Was it just the most cringe-worthy thing they could think of? Like, hmm holy shit what would be the one thing I'd hate to do so they know I'm not lyin'. If that's the case maybe I should switch it to like. Lettin' Rose psychoanalyze my taste in music or something. Well, I guess that could be funny.

[It's cool. Dave can wear his godtier jammies and Luke can be stuffed in his camp t-shirt. This is all fine. The motive is less fine and the amount of people who might take it is even less less fine...but then there's Dave. He doesn't have a lot of time to dwell before there's a kid in his line of vision who kind of likes to hear the sound of his own voice, he thinks, and he waits for Dave to get to a point he pauses.]

I'm gonna pretend I know who Rose is and just go with "you don't have to stick a needle in your eye." What kind of proposition are we talkin' here?

My sister. And basically: you got your sword back, yeah? Me too. Wanna make training together a thing?

[ dave has no idea how good luke is or isn't, but from luke's build he's going with "probably pretty good". also, the creepy stalker profiles indicated he'd be decent at swordfighting? so? there are only four sword people from those - the todd kid, adelina, like, and dave.

dave picked the person he liked best. ]

[Both eyebrows raise but you know...that's not a bad idea? That's really not a bad idea considering where they are and the fact that he also noticed there weren't a ton of swordfighters in their bundle of profiles. In order to be a knight of something, Dave has to be kinda decent.

Also the kid vibes with him pretty well so far so why the hell not.]

You know, pretty sure most people wouldn't be so eager to go against another guy with a sword after we were told we have to kill each other. [He almost sounds amused.] Sure. Nothing else to do on this ship. Who taught you how to fight? [Does he have to go easy on him? Real questions.]

[ but. point. dave probably could have thought the offer through better, but...whatever. in the interest of staying on top of his game (his mom is here, he has to look out for her?) the offer had to be made. ]

My Bro trained me, my whole life. [ luke probably doesn't need to go easy on dave. bro never did. ]

[There sure is a flicker of something when Dave drops the word "promise" but you know what he'll handle it like a mature adult and totally ignore it.]

Yeeeah, you've got a point. [He's nodding slowly.] I used to train kids like you. Let's see what your bro taught you.

[Like. He needs to go get Backbiter first but he's still agreeable on it.] Got a place in mind already? [Because if not he can think of one or two.]

[ dave doesn't ask because honestly...he's not the prying sort. he just nods, casual. if luke thinks dave is anything near green or less than trained by a bullshit ninja, he's in for a surprise...but that should be Fun. it's not like dave has ever fought a demigod so he's in for a treat, too. ]

Viewport, maybe? Unless you got a better place. I'm down for wherever. [ dave sticks his hands in his pockets, shrugging. ]

[It'll be good to spar again even without knowing Dave's skill level. He'll have to be mindful not to actually strike him with Backbiter, but if Dave's as good as he thinks he is he shouldn't have trouble keeping up.]

Those windows are pretty sturdy. [You know, as if broken windows is a thing one should worry about.] And people seem to be finding other things to do besides look out into space. Seems like just as good a place as any.

Then meet there whenever you're ready? We can pick a general time for it, too, but. It's not like I honestly have any standin' plans here.

[ because. STUCK ON A MURDER SPACESHIP. ]

Turns out bein' stuck on a murderboat in space is hell on a guy's social calendar.

Speak for yourself. I've got a whole book full of plans. [Okay but no, Dave really has a point and he rolls his eyes a bit.] I think between staring blankly at the ceiling in my room and testing Backbiter out in space I'm gonna have to go with the latter. You good to go now?

I'm def good to go now. I can meet you there, though I already got my sword on me.

[ he...doesn't appear to have his sword on him, but #sylladex ]

[Yep. Gonna stare. You sure don't look like you've got a weapon on you, Strider, but okay. You do you.]

Right...ten minutes. And try not to get lost on the way. [Let's be honest, it'll only take him five to get Backbiter and head back to the viewport but he wants to get in a few test swings in his room first. But hey. Ten minutes later he'll definitely be there.]

[ he'll find dave there standing around casually with his sword in hand. he's kind of just staring out the viewport window tbh.

but he gives luke a head nod when he enters. ]

Sup.

[Backbiter's in his hand when he enters the viewport and he takes a moment to give Dave's sword a once-over.]

You really had that on you this whole time? [That's. That's not a small sword. How does that happen? Backbiter itself is four feet long and shiny bronze and steel and totally not capable of randomly summoning here. Something to keep in mind at least.]

Sylladex inventory system, dude.

[ he's figured that it's pointless to hide what that is since he and roxy...basically did not bother already and also it's an obviously shady thing to have on a profile card. they'd have to cop to it eventually. ]

I can't carry as much as usual, but I can still carry my weapon.

Yeah, I'll pretend I know what that is. But it sounds useful. [Hefting Backbiter over his shoulder, there's another test swing.] We usually had to carry our weapons with us unless they had a disguise. This one doesn't.

[And with that he's taking a stance, calculating Dave's size and the size of his sword.] Try to keep up.

Back at ya, dude.

[ dave takes an easy stance honed from...well, a lifetime of doing just this. his main attribute is speed, to the point of ninja flashstep, but he's going to bring himself down to luke-level for the sake of, uh. not ninja flashstepping everywhere? ]

[Please don't flashstep you dirty cheater. But he can appreciate that since he can't magically rip holes in time and teleport wherever he wants, so instead he's lunging forward to bring his sword down in an arc toward Dave just as a start. Let's see how well he blocks.]

[ pretty well! dave's not flashstepping, but he's still moving way faster than normal humans should be allowed to move, so it's easy to get his sword up in time. he's something of a dodgetank, but he figured he'd block that one normally so he can turn it into...ducking under luke's blade and sliding his leg out to get luke's feet. ]

[Oh good, a challenge. He lifts his eyebrows in surprise when Dave blocks his swing and if he weren't used to fighting dirty he probably would have successfully tripped over Dave's leg. As it is, he winds up jumping over it and staggering just a little, Backbiter coming up again to another side-swipe to try and tip Dave off-balance while he's ducking and dodging.]
