You don't have to be, dude. I mean, I would not say no when we're in bed or making out. Or if you ever lose a bet again and I get to ask you to do something you'll find completely embarrassing or at least ridiculous.

I am almost afraid to ask why being shirtless would be embarrassing or ridiculous so I am not going to ask. Frankly I do not mind that much? I kind of worked hard to look like this. [Sports...] So the point is I will keep that in mind.

Shirtless cooking but with an apron. [ dave just. cheerfully tells him. ] Next time you lose. Also I get to take pictures.

I think I kind of gave up thinking about what I'd ask since you seem to win most of the time anyway. And you give me most of the things I want right now anyway if I ask nicely enough.

Wow, okay, there is totally stuff I wouldn't do for you.

[ maybe. he's sure he can think of something besides taking off his shirt.

Such as? [Like yeah. He's waiting??] That list is pretty small, I think.

[ he puts his hand on john's face and shoves. ]

[He licks Dave's hand but also, from behind the hand:] I'm waiting!

[ ughhhh. he moves his hand back and shoves john, leaning in to kiss him. and bite his lower lip kind of hard. ]

Nothing, okay? There ain't anything I wouldn't give you if you asked.

[Why would you do a thing he actually likes??? There's a pleased murmur at the bite and he's grabbing Dave's shoulders to hold him there.]

You know that's mutual, don't you?

Okay. Then just give me you. [ he doesn't explain how he means that, but it's the simple everyday sort of way that always still feels incredibly strange: someone to circle back to at the end of the day, home in a person instead of a place. ]

[There's a few moments of silence as he contemplates his words.]

Do you think there's any part of me, currently, that doesn't belong to you?

[parodeity]

Like, serious or poetic? [ dave doesn't seem really worried or upset. ] I think there are always pieces of people that belong to themselves only or other people or places or times. It probably takes a few lifetimes to really get to know someone as well as they can be known. But I didn't mean "give me everything" or "you aren't giving me enough".

[windeity]

No I know, I know that was not what you meant. I was just asking because I was curious. [A hand shifts to hold one of Dave's.] We're already on what, our second or third lifetime? I think we're further ahead than most people at least. But I want most things in this lifetime to be stuff I share with you. Both as my best friend and my boyfriend. Sometimes I suck at balancing those but I want to get better at it.

Since when have you sucked at it?

[windeity]

[A slow shrug.] Maybe not in really recent memory but there are definitely times I have not been sure how to respond to stuff or I figure making out is an appropriate answer instead of just being a good friend. Like I said, working on it.

[parodeity]

...I mean, I don't mind that response.

[windeity]

[His free hand comes up to slowly push on Dave's cheek.] Yeah, I bet. But you know what I mean. I want to be as good and supportive as possible.

You've done way more than you could have ever been expected to do.

Funny how that works when you care about someone a lot. [A gentle tease.] If someday it's ever not enough, will you tell me?

Not sure what else I could ask for. You give me a day and a quarter of your undivided attention every week.

I wouldn't mind giving you more than that, but we have a good thing going here. I like our Tuesdays and Saturdays.
