They're also a symbol of American wholesomeness, which probably explains a lot about our political climate. Cantaloupes, however, are a mystery. They're a melon. Discerning the meaning of a cantaloupe inside the skin of an apple is not easy. Is the artist suggesting that Apples are interchangeably corruptable, like Adam and Eve? That their flesh can turn even the mildest of other fruit-like creations into something else? I'm not well-versed in cantaloupe symbology. Perhaps it's a suggestion to peel your apples before eating them, as you would avoid eating a cantaloupe skin.
Really, if we think deeply on the matter it could be said we're all fools. Humankind is one of the most foolish species to ever exist in the vastness of the universe. Or multiverse.
