WEEK ONE: TUESDAY, THE DINER

[ while dave's instructions were vague at best (waiting in town where) the place dirk can find him is the big belly diner, sitting on one of the barstools nearest the jukebox. he's leaning back against the counter and seems to be mostly staring off into space, though he is listening to a song he heard the other day with someone else.

for once he will not do the "sup" thing though he kind of nods awkwardly when he spots dirk and seems to refocus. ]

[ is this better than the "sup" or "yo" thing. shit. ]

[ well okay at least dirk didn't, like...refuse.

dave's quiet when he listens, though he always at least taps a finger or a foot to music when it plays without really thinking about it. it's a habit he's never tried to shake.

it isn't, he thinks, something bro would have done. the music. ]

[splinten]

[Dirk glances at Dave. He is obviously a little nervous. He doesn't want to be.

Yeah he doesn't even dare speak. It automatically goes into another track of his, more mellow, for just relaxing to. Still he's too nervous to talk.]

[parodeity]

[ like, dave is just going to keep listening? as long as dirk keeps playing the tracks? his arms are crossed over his chest, and he's avoiding touching his Bruised Arm Area (thanks dirk) and his eyes are impossible to see behind his shades, still.

but after like, four tracks if dirk can even last that long, he will actually stand up so. ]

[splinten]

[Dirk makes it that long in a state of near death and when Dave stands he freezes in a manner similar to someone expecting to be attacked, or at least abandoned. It's an in-headlights freezing and behind his shades his eyes are wide looking at Dave.]

[parodeity]

[ okay, chill the fuck out, dirk. like dave isn't tense himself, and barely looking at dirk, but he goes over to dirk by the jukebox and this time he queues up something entirely different without any explanation.

although the jukebox probably explains well enough?

it's something of his, instead of something of dirk's. ]

[splinten]

[He listens to it, his focus spinning over to the jukebox on high focus. When it's done—]

That was really awesome, dude. I loved it.

[He's looking at Dave now, and,] Can I hear another one?

[parodeity]

Do you, [ a long pause. um. ]

Do you want to trade off back and forth.

[ this is why he dragged dirk out here. this isn't even a thing he has to be secretive about? literally no one would care. and yet. ]

[splinten]

I would love that.

[Yeah he. Said that fast, vehement like he was afraid if he waited too long Dave would take the offer back.]

[parodeity]

[ okay well good job dirk, dave didn't respond to him saying he liked dave's piece because he. did not know how to handle the praise, but. ]

Okay. [ okay, come on, you can do this - ] Then it's your turn.

[ dirk played more tracks than dave already, but he'll just...finish out with four extra, or something, later. right now he is Trying to do something, in a haphazard and uncertain way, for the reasons he gave last time. and maybe a little for himself, also. ]

[splinten]

[Dirk tries another track but UNLIKE WITH DAVE there are no canon examples. It isn't fake smiles and fake affection and that at least seems to have relaxed Dirk. He picks a bit of a more upbeat jam, something he composed for working on things.]

[parodeity]

[ dave could have explained his intentions like. way better here. oh well. ]

I like faster stuff a lot of the time.
