he's been probably a wreck most of the day but what else is new and he kind of slides onto the opposite side of the picnic table if that's where dirk is, looking anywhere but dirk for a minute or two before focusing and saying: ]

[ SOMEHOW, THAT IS A WORSE OPTION THAN ASKING HOW DAVE IS DOING BECAUSE HE IMMEDIATELY TENSES UP WHEN EMILY IS MENTIONED, FROWNING AT DIRK. ]

[Dirk notices that. He wants to smack himself in the face.]

[He just brought some light bread-things to maybe snack on if Dave wanted, since Dave went to the meal. He awkwardly grabs one and then just. Holds it.

[ let's...start there even though that isn't remotely what he wanted to discuss. ]

Yeah. Mostly nothing, but there's this.

[He takes out of his pocket a picture of the Dark Room. It shows eyes all over the walls and ceilings, all of them staring straight at the camera. There is a headless person sitting on the chair, but none of their features can be made out, including their clothing.]

[ WELL, THAT'S COOL, DAVE REGRETS SPENDING A MINUTE IN THERE. :/ ]

So the others were just normal pictures? [ also: ] Wonder if people you didn't tell your damn role to can see this.

[ why is he still salty about this. he literally just asked to see a picture dirk took. ]

[ THAT ARGUMENT ASIDE, he's still being restless as shit and runs a hand through his hair. he...usually stays still so there's probably something going on, but whatever. ]

[ WHAT THE FUCK IS HE DOING apparently he's not going to explain that but dirk gets a vague warning solely because dave is worried about a ten year old girl, and maybe out of some sense of obligation or something. ]

Dave! [He reaches to grab Dave's arm and if he hits, the tightness of his grip will match the tightness of his voice and expression.] Don't—holy shit, don't do this. Whatever this is. Don't—you can't—

[Yeah he doesn't have an argument, just deep alarm and fear.]

[ well he can't say he'll be fine because he seems Unsure of whether or not that is actually the case.

dave didn't actually expect dirk to touch him - he's pretty sure it's actually the first time dirk has - so it hits and he freezes but: ]

[ fuck if he knows but he has a mission and dave...well, he's always been willing to throw his life down for that. ]

[Dirk doesn't let go and the look on his face doesn't really change, just sinks a little more hopeless and a little more afraid. His voice is quiet but taut with his fears.

Reciting, word-for-word, the instructions does not seem to actually calm him. Obviously the topic is not done for him.]
