I meant moreso we were unwillin' to question how trustworthy she is. Which, like. My main reason for that was less to do with the morally questionable terraformin' and more how now that we know how the fuck we got here, it seems...hinky.
[ weird word choice, but. ]
...That URSULA, with all her monitorin' capabilities, has never fuckin' mentioned it.
[Well, 'hinky' is a new word she can use to describe situations like this one, at least.]
If she had been more forthcoming, do you think some of us would have been less likely to work as her crew? The appearance of the warpers and their technological roots does complicate things some, if we were going to narrow this conflict down to a matter of "sides."
"Hinky" would be something abnormal or perplexing, correct? Therefore, there may be other things she's aware of, due to her capabilities, that she has not told us about either.
I don't know. I mean, I kinda do...what I do. What the fuck else were we going to do? The thing is, either she knows this shit and didn't say, or she's fucked with enough in weird ways that she wouldn't say, either option of which means she's less than trustworthy, maybe.
I mean, I guess she could just be oblivious and innocent, but...come the hell on. We've been askin' about this shit for over a year now, and she has the monitoring capabilities, so somethin' is up on some level, whether or not she's an active party.
[She freezes a little when Dave mentions the past year.]
It's really been that long... Yes, by my calculations, I will have been here for a year in just over a month. [It's rare that she ever stays in one place--one time--for very long. This is stranger than she thought it would be.]
I am surprised that we never encountered something that would help us make sense of this, given how many times she's been transferred or rebooted.
I mean...we could ask the tech crew to look at it specifically, but like I was sayin'...we all like her. Even I do? I just have started to wonder how it is she hasn't been able to help us with her capabilities, and with knowin' we want the answers to these specific questions.
Of course, Dave. I never doubted that you like her. [She gives him a reassuring smile, grateful for his honesty.
Horō seems to be thinking about this quite critically. She tilts her head back to look at the ceiling, giving it some time.]
There are a few possibilities other than the strictly negative ones. For example, her access to giving certain answers could be restricted. From what I understand an AI to be, that would not be so different from my losing my memory before I arrived here. It is true that others discovered their memories were "altered," right?
Or, something or someone in the environment could be creating interference.
[Nobody wants to talk about their scary MIA virus nephew, but...]
Yeah, her access could be restricted, but the thing is, I think whatever is restrictin' it - or whoever - constitutes a "negative" thing, you know? Like...if someone is messin' with our Base AI, and has been since forever, we kinda need to look into that.
I believe you, Dave, and you are right to be suspicious; however, it is less negative in the sense that she would not have developed a free will only to use it to withhold information.
As you said, everyone likes her. I would prefer it if we had to investigate an outside force instead of turning on our provider. It is very difficult to confront a friend.
In any event, I believe we should start by verifying that she's not being messed with at present.

Why haven't you asked him?
You are close. Surely he would listen to you over his friendship with her.
